Bilnor Staffing Solutions' client in the mining / crushing sector is looking for a Yellow Fleet Reliability Manager to join their team in Bloemfontein, FS.
The Yellow Fleet Reliability Manager serves as the first line of communication for technical and reliability measurement for all yellow-fleet related matters arising from site.
This role is intentionally structured to absorb, manage, and resolve day-to-day technical escalations, breakdown support, warranty issues, and repeat failure investigations, allowing the Yellow Fleet Technical Manager (HOD) to dedicate time and capacity to strategic planning, contractual governance, OEM negotiations, long-term fleet optimisation, and organisational leadership.
The role bridges site execution and strategic technical management, ensuring that operational noise is filtered, resolved, and escalated (only when required) and supported by clear data and technical justification.

POSITION INFO:
Duties and Responsibilities:
First Line Technical & Reliability Measurement (Primary Accountability)
- Act as the primary point of contact for all site-initiated technical, reliability, and breakdown escalations related to yellow-fleet assets.
- Receive and manage initial technical calls from site, including:
- Breakdown support
- Repeat failures
- Warranty-sensitive issues
- Performance deviations
- Conduct immediate triage of technical issues and determine:
- Site-level resolution
- OEM involvement
- Escalation thresholds
- Ensure that filtered, structured, and technically substantiated matters are escalated to the Yellow Fleet Technical Manager (HOD).
OEM & Warranty Governance (Operational Ownership)- Attend to day-to-day engagement with OEMs and service providers on technical and warranty matters.
- Administer:
- Warranty claims
- Supporting technical evidence
- Communication timelines
- Escalations and close-out documentation
- Ensure OEM compliance with warranty obligations and performance expectations.
- Shield senior technical leadership from routine OEM engagements unless strategic and critical intervention is required.
- Update HOD on discussion outcomes.
Reliability Engineering & Failure Management.- Facilitate Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for:
- Major failures
- Repeat breakdowns
- Premature component failures
- Maintain and manage:
- Failure modes registers
- Repeat failure logs
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Optimisation- Review maintenance outcomes and identify reliability risks arising from:
- Preventative Maintenance execution gaps
- Service interval misalignment
- Poor component quality
- Administrative shortcomings
- Ensure condition-monitoring data is actively used and interpreted
Component Lifecycle & Asset Support- Track component life and identify early-life or end-of-life risks.
- Provide immediate technical guidance to site teams on:
- Repair vs replace decisions
- Warranty repair vs internal repair
- Compile asset-level technical packs containing:
- Failure history o Component replacements
- Oil sampling trends
- Cost data
- Escalate lifecycle risks to the Yellow Fleet Technical Manager only when strategic decisions or commercial implications are required.
Escalation & Governance Protocol- Immediately escalate to the Yellow Fleet Technical Manager (HOD) when:
- A machine is forecasted to be on breakdown for longer than 12 hours
- Failures pose contractual, safety, or reputational risk
- OEM non-performance requires senior intervention
- Ensure escalations are:
- Data-driven
- Technically substantiated
Accompanied by recommended solutions
Reliability Reporting & Strategic Enablement- Compile structured reliability reports that enable the Yellow Fleet Technical Manager to make strategic decisions without operational distraction.
- Reports to include:
- Top reliability risks
- Repeat failure trends
- Warranty exposure
- Cost-per-hour impact
- Act as a technical filter, ensuring senior leadership receives insight rather than operational noise.
Authority & Decision Rights- Authority to:
- Direct OEM and service provider involvement for operational issues
- Approve tactical reliability interventions
- Prevent premature escalation to senior management
- Strategic and commercial decision-making authority remains with the Yellow Fleet Technical
- Manager (HOD).

Qualifications (Minimum)- National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or technical qualification
- Diesel Mechanic / Earthmoving Equipment Trade Qualification
Experience (Mandatory Minimum)- Minimum 8-10 years experience in open-cast mining or a comparable heavy earthmoving environment, such as:
- Contract mining
- Open-pit mining
- Large-scale quarrying operations
- Demonstrated hands-on exposure to:
- Large yellow-fleet assets (haul trucks, loaders, excavators, support equipment)
- High-pressure production environments with continuous operations
- On-site breakdown support
- Proven experience engaging directly with:
- OEMS
- Technical service providers
- Site engineering and maintenance teams
