JOB SUMMARY:
The CAPE Region – Area Manager – reports to the Operations and Business Development Directors and has the responsibility to organise, control and coordinate all of the activities in the region (Eastern/ Western/ Northern Cape and Namibia).

JOB DESCRIPTION:

AREA MANAGER (Scaffolding & Insulation – Contracts Management/BD)

Permanent position based in Cape Town with extensive travelling within Western/Eastern Cape and Namibia

R60 000 + benefits + company car

BD 60% Contracts/Projects Management 40%

Purpose and Scope:

The CAPE Region – Area Manager – reports to the Operations and Business Development Directors and has the responsibility to organise, control and coordinate all of the activities in the region (Eastern/ Western/ Northern Cape and Namibia).

Experience – Qualifications:

A tertiary qualification in the engineering-built environment, construction, QS

Business Development / Projects / Contracts Management experience within Cape Area within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Energy, Mining industries

Experience of NEC, JBCC, FIDIC & GCC conditions of contract is required.

Key Performance Area 1: Business Development:

The Area Manager will take on the role and responsibilities for all Business Development activities for the area, who will be supported and guided by the Business Development Director.

This position requires the incumbent to play a vital role in securing new projects which in turn requires a direct input to the Business Development Team and Management.

Supporting the Marketing and Estimating function by keeping abreast of industry developments and identifying business opportunities with existing, new and previous clients in line with the divisions business strategy; Meeting or improving the sales KPI’s as set out and agreed too.

Develop a detailed Sales Strategy and Plan for the area in line with the Budget which is to be reviewed monthly with the Business Development Director.

Plan and manage all Business Development activities to ensure the effective achievement of the Business Development objectives and goals for the area.

To spend at least 50% of time on Business Development activities with clients and looking for new sales opportunities in the region.

Reporting and meeting weekly with the BD Director to review BD activities and goals against the Proposed Sales Plan for the area.

Updating the Sales Report daily as the activities and actions are completed.

Establish and maintain an excellent relationship with all Clients in the area.

Working and leading all key tenders with the Estimating department.

Ensuring that the Regional Sales Budgets are met.

Contracts Management/Administration:

Responsible for managing the Site Supervisors, Site Administrators, Safety Officers, and all other Site Employees including any office-based staff.

Planning, monitoring of contracts in hand, to ensure that work is executed within the budgets allowed and in accordance with the contractual programme

Assess and provide accurate value related input to the financial reporting system

Ensure that all company Procedures and Processes are always implemented and adhered to.

Ensure all site work complies with QCP’s, specifications, drawings, codes, client instructions etc. and maintain suitable records thereof.

Ensure correct number, type and quality of personnel are available on site and to control and monitor the allocation of man-hours expended and costs incurred.

Ensure no additional work is carried out without the appropriate written authority from the client.

Ensure adequate tools, equipment and material are available on site to affect the work and that proper controls are maintained.

Ensure that the contractual requirements of individual contracts are met, and the company’s contractual and commercial positions are protected.

Ensure that the company’s assets allocated to individual contracts are kept safe and maintained in a proper manner.

Set-up, maintain and monitor the implementation of the Management Control System, as required.

Maintain confidentiality of company information.

Maintain compliance with Construction Regulation, OHS & Legal Liability, Working at Heights, Confined Space entry, Hazardous substances, Accident & Incident Investigation etc.

Supervision of site personnel is such that clear instructions of daily and weekly targets are given, and progress is measured and recorded for close monitoring of productivity and time management.

Optimise all resources.

Ensure that daily commercial change control is regulated and additional works and or standing and delays are captured in accordance with the requirements of the contract and paid monthly in the payment certificate.

Maintain commercial reporting requirements as a minimum of:

PRM Presentation on template monthly

Sales Ratio

Variation orders

Debtors

Daily costing + look ahead planning

Estimated Final Value and cost

Under/Overclaim details

Materials on site register/Stock

Under/overstated cost register

Alignment of financial WIP to project WIP

Productivity on unit rated work

Tracking of delays

Standing time approvals and invoicing

Absenteeism reports

Payment Certification

Invoice Register

Personal Attributes:

The position requires a high level of Leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with other members of the Management Team, Group Management and Senior Client personnel.

The individual will be required to have a pleasant and out-going personality and have a high level of Management and leadership skills.

The position requires that the incumbent has a high level of motivation and the ability to work independently in a methodical and accurate manner.

The individual must have extensive market knowledge of the Cape Region and previous experience of working in the various areas and market segments (Oil & Gas / Energy)
