SUMMARY:
CLINICAL DATA SCIENTIST

POSITION INFO:

Exciting opportunity for a Clinical Data Scientist to spport the Data Science and Analytics Manager, and the greater Data Management and Analytics department

Ensure an accurate and complete interpretation of clinical data for analytics and for clinical studies, drive quality in clinical data to ensure that the data is credible and reliable.

Must have comprehensive knowledge of all areas pertaining to the management of data, data delivery, understands clinical protocols, is able to interpret clinical study data, and the technologies needed / used on clinical studies from start to completion.

The Clinical Data Scientist will also identify opportunities to utilise data through statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualisation techniques to influence and improve patient care and health by analysing the data.

Essential Requirements:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in the area of statistics, computer science, engineering or mathematics at a NQF level 7.
  • Master’s degree in epidemiology or health subjects, such as public health, statistical science or biological science at a NQF level 9.

Preferred:

  • Relevant data science certifications such as Python, Microsoft, AWS, Hadoop, big data, machine learning, cloud infrastructure.Project management qualification or agile certification such as Scrum or Prince2

 Experience Required

  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in a hospital or pharmaceutical company.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in data science related projects.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in the end to end data management cycle
  • Knowledge and practical experience in applying machine learning techniques for clinical solutions.
  • Experience working in agile development teams.
  • Experience in operationalising data science solutions or similar product development.

Knowledge required:

  • Knowledge of trends and developments in the health care industry.
  • Knowledge of health-related policies, procedures and legislation.
  • Clinical knowledge that will contribute to exposing patterns.
  • An advanced level of computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Solution focused and strong collaborative mindset.
  • Demonstrates excellent organisational skills: organised and structured.
  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the data science process including but not limited to:
    • Data profiling;
    • Feature selection;
    • Data modelling;
    • Model evaluation;
    • Productionisation;
    • Monitoring.
  • Knowledge of how the business functions and the underlying strategy which supports the business model as well as improving clinical health and care.
  • The ability to build, analyse and interpret numerical and non-numerical data to determine potential statistical inferences to inform business and clinical decisions.
  • The Clinical Data Scientist must be detail-oriented, analytical, and have excellent communication and interpersonal
  • Ability in applying statistical machine learning techniques to predictive modelling.
  • Ability to clean and unify messy and complex data sets for easy access and analysis. Combining structured and unstructured data.
  • Ability to provide detailed explanations (visually and verbally), representing information in the form of a chart, diagram, picture, using tools such as Kibana, Tableau, Power BI, etc.
  • Write programming code based on a prepared design.
  • Understand leading edge technologies and best practice around Big Data, platforms and distributed data processing i.e. Hadoop ecosystem (distributed computational power)-HDFS/Spark/Kafka.
  • Ability to conceptualise and frame a problem, develop hypothesis and identify objective measures to estimate accuracy of machine learning/statistical processes and perform testing and validation with careful experiments.
  • Understanding of data flows, ETL and processing of structured and unstructured data within the data architecture.
  • Comprehensive solution design based on a good understanding of the Big Data Architecture.
