COMMERCIAL MANAGER - CATEGORY: FRUIT AND VEG

SUMMARY:

Our growing organization seeks a Commercial Manager experienced in Fruit & Veg category, to lead and drive the commercial strategy for the category, ensuring profitability, market growth, and strong supplier and customer relationships. This role oversees procurement, pricing, sales performance, and market positioning within the fresh produce sector.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Commercial Strategy & Growth

• Develop and implement category-specific commercial strategies aligned with company objectives
• Identify new market opportunities, product lines, and revenue streams
• Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and pricing dynamics
• Category revenue and gross margin growth
• Market share growth

• Build and maintain strong relationships with local and international growers/suppliers
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, and supply agreements
• Ensure consistent product quality, availability, and cost efficiency
• Supplier performance and cost savings
• Stock management and waste reduction

• Work closely with sales teams to drive volume and margin growth
• Manage key accounts within retail, wholesale, and HORECA channels
• Support customer negotiations, tenders, and pricing strategies
• Customer retention and key account growth

• Oversee pricing models, margins, and cost structures
• Analyse sales and financial data to optimise profitability
• Manage budgets, forecasts, and category performance reporting

• Liaise with logistics and operations teams to ensure efficient supply chain flow
• Minimise waste, shrinkage, and stock losses
• Ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards

• Lead and mentor the commercial/category team
• Drive performance, accountability, and collaboration across departments

• 5–10+ years in fresh produce, FMCG, or agricultural commercial roles, proven experience in procurement, category management, or trading.
• Strong background in fruit and vegetable markets (local & export preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Agriculture, Supply Chain, or related field
• Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
• Excellent financial acumen and analytical ability. Strategic thinking with a hands-on approach
• Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, seasonal environment
