Commodity Trader (South Africa)

SUMMARY:
Our client is seeking a Commodity Trader with a focus on maize, soybeans, and related by-products within the South African market. This role is suited to a commercially driven individual with strong local market knowledge and an established network across the agricultural value chain. You will play a key role in identifying opportunities, managing risk, and driving profitable trading activities within South Africa.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities:

• Source and procure maize, soybeans, and derivative products within South Africa
• Conduct ongoing market analysis, monitoring local pricing trends, crop conditions, and supply/demand dynamics
• Develop and implement pricing strategies aligned to local market conditions
• Execute trades end-to-end, including buying, selling, and contract negotiation
• Build and maintain strong relationships
• Identify and develop new trading opportunities within the local market
• Work closely with logistics and operations teams to ensure efficient execution and delivery
• Manage the full trade lifecycle, from deal structuring through to delivery and payment
• Apply risk management principles, including exposure management and basic hedging where applicable
• Ensure all trades are executed in line with compliance and contractual requirements

• 3–7+ years experience in commodity trading within South Africa (non-negotiable)
• Proven experience trading with Maize and/or Soybeans or related by-products (e.g. oilcake, soybean meal, animal feed inputs)
• Degree in related field will be beneficial
• Strong existing network within the South African agricultural sector
• Demonstrated ability to execute trades end-to-end
• Strong negotiation and deal-closing ability
• Commercially driven with strong profit awareness
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and relationship management skills
