This role sits in CLII and based within the Division of Pulmonology in the Department of Medicine at UCTLI and is committed to the pursuit of excellence in research, treatment, training, and prevention of TB in Southern Africa.
The University of Cape Town Lung Institute is looking for a skilled and motivated Data Manager to join a multi-skilled team supporting clinical trials and large-scale research studies.

This role is offered under the University of Cape Town Lung Institute’s own employment terms and conditions, which are separate from UCT conditions of service.

POSITION INFO:
â What you bring:

Master’s degree in computer science, Public Health, Health Sciences, or related field
Bachelor of Science Degree in medical, scientific, biological, statistical, computer science or related field
Valid Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certificate
5–7 years’ experience in a related field
Experience in data management within a research environment
Strong knowledge of REDCap, SQL, MS Excel, MS Access, and statistical software such as R, STATA or SPSS
Experience with databases, systems administration, and data security
Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to supervise and motivate teams in a fast-paced environment

Your technical expertise and leadership will support high-quality research data systems that contribute to improving health outcomes.

ð¯ What you’ll own:

Managing secure and accurate research databases across multiple studies
Designing, developing, and validating databases and electronic case report forms (eCRFs)
Monitoring data quality, integrity, and query resolution processes
Supervising data capturers and QC/QA teams
Implementing and maintaining data backup systems and access controls
Supporting statistical analyses and reporting requirements
Developing SOPs, data standards, and quality management procedures
Training and mentoring staff on databases and research systems
Collaborating with investigators, research nurses, coordinators, and external stakeholders

Your work will ensure reliable, secure, and high-quality data systems that strengthen clinical research operations and scientific outputs.

ð Role Information:

Fixed Term Contract (12 Months)
Monday to Friday | 40 hours per week
Based across Groote Schuur Hospital, UCT Lung Institute (Mowbray), and associated sites
