POSITION INFO:
The Engineering Department requires a committed, hardworking and trustworthy individual to join the team as a Facilities & Maintenance Coordinator. The successful candidate will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Maintenance Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination, oversight, and quality assurance of all maintenance and repair activities across four Gauteng yards (PTA, ELF, KNT, and SCD). The role includes outsourcing necessary work, following up to ensure timely completion, conducting quality checks post-repair, and reporting back to the responsible Engineer for each site.
RESPONSIBILITIES (NOT LIMITED TO THE BELOW):
COORDINATION AND OVERSIGHT
- Schedule and manage outsourced maintenance and repair services for all yard locations.
- Ensure timely execution of repairs by coordinating with vendors and contractors.
- Perform follow-ups to verify completion and quality of work conducted.
- Maintain effective communication with site Engineers regarding maintenance status, issues, and resolutions.
QUALITY CONTROL
- Conduct thorough quality checks upon completion of repairs to confirm compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Document and report discrepancies or substandard work for corrective action.
- Maintain logs of completed tasks, including dates, contractors used, and materials replaced.
BATHROOM MAINTENANCE
- Address and resolve plumbing issues, including toilet leaks, blockages, and dripping taps.
- Replace toilet seats, shower heads, and faulty pipes as required.
- Carry out surface repairs including retiling floors and repainting walls.
OFFICE MAINTENANCE
- Replace faulty lighting and electrical fixtures.
- Paint and maintain interior office walls.
- Replace damaged floor tiles and hang fixtures such as whiteboards.
- Coordinate repairs and servicing of air conditioning systems.
- Oversee maintenance and repair of doors and door hardware.
SECURITY AND SURVEILANCE
- Clean and maintain CCTV cameras to ensure clear visibility.
- Adjust or reposition cameras to ensure optimal coverage.
- Identify and address faults in electric fencing systems, coordinating necessary repairs.
YARD AND EXTERNAL AREAS MAINTENANCE
- Manage repairs to roller doors and external lighting fixtures.
- Ensure all outdoor lighting and mechanical features are functional and secure.
SERVER ROOM MAINTENANCE
- Repaint server room walls and ensure a clean and organized appearance.
- Organize and neaten server racks, cabling, and associated infrastructure.
QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE
- A minimum Grade 12 certificate
- Valid South African driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly between sites (Pretoria, Elandsfontein, Knights, and Secunda).
- Technical or trade qualification in mechanical, electrical, or facilities management will be advantageous.
QUALIFYING ATTRIBUTES
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across multiple sites and departments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook
- Excellent organizational and planning skills, with strong attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, industrial environment, including proactive problem-solving and decision-making under pressure.
- Basic knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to industrial and recycling operations in South Africa.
- Sound understanding of mechanical and electrical systems relevant to plant equipment and facility infrastructure.
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while inspecting or overseeing operations across facilities.
- Must be physically fit and able to perform tasks such as bending, stretching, climbing ladders, and crawling under equipment.
- Must be comfortable working in varied weather conditions and in environments that may be dusty, noisy, or exposed to industrial materials.
