Financial Controller

POSITION INFO:
Our client is seeking a driven and detail-oriented professional to take ownership of the finance function, with a strong focus on cost accounting, contract profitability, and strategic financial support.

This role is based in Sandton, Johannesburg North.

Key Responsibilities:
Cost Accounting & Job Costing

• Oversee and manage the full contract costing process, factoring in material pricing, foreign exchange fluctuations, shipping, transport, and cost escalations
• Review and analyse price, cost, and profit estimates across all contracts
• Develop and maintain overhead recovery rates and cost drivers for accurate allocation across product lines
• Monitor and track contract profitability against initial estimates, highlighting risks and opportunities
• Conduct Work-in-Progress (WIP) valuations and perform ongoing project reviews
• Analyse margin variances on repair and service contracts and provide actionable insights
• Prepare and present detailed month-end financial and management reports

• Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
• Produce accurate and timely monthly profit forecasts
• Partner with operational teams to ensure alignment between financial plans and business objectives

• Support the preparation of annual financial statements
• Liaise extensively with external auditors during audit processes
• Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements

• Partner with regional operations to support the achievement of strategic goals
• Strengthen and maintain effective internal control systems
• Collaborate with cross-functional departments to drive overall business performance
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and follow up on long outstanding items
• Provide network activity confirmations where required
• Engage with head office and group affiliates on financial matters
• Assist with ad hoc financial projects and reporting as required

• BCom Accounting / Finance (essential)
• Completed SAICA / SAIPA articles advantageous
• 5+ years’ experience in a Financial Controller or similar role
• Strong experience in cost accounting and project/contract costing
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
