General Manager (Animal Hospital Operations)

SUMMARY:
General Manager required for a large Animal Hospital Operations based in Cape Town. No animal health experience is required. We are looking for well-rounded general manager.

POSITION INFO:

General Manager (Animal Hospital Operations)

Reports To: CEO/Board

The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of analytical, evaluative, advisory, coordinating, supervisory and technical functions in support of the Business Unit. The general manager is responsible for the business activities of the hospital including hiring and training support staff; working with the CFO to prepare financial statements and budgets, monitoring key performance indicators and setting fees; maintaining inventory and an inventory control system; managing the hospital software; data automation and implementing safety and security procedures. Review/evaluation/analysis of the past performance of the practice is as well the responsibility of the hospital manager. This is a leadership position with the additional responsibility of ensuring a positive work environment in which the practice achieves its goals.

EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Related Field.
• Proven work experience as a General Manager /Business Manager, Hospital/Practice Manager, or similar role

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Work exposure to all aspects of a business enterprise, with demonstrated competence in budgeting and financial reporting and in staff management.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Feel and express a genuine liking for animals and for working in an animal care environment.
• Must be able to demonstrate “take charge” capabilities tactfully.
• May be required to work uncommon hours, overtime, and be subject to recall in emergencies.
• Deal intelligibly, pleasantly, and efficiently with clients on the telephone and in person, often doing several things at one time.
• Display tact and diplomacy with staff members and clients.
• Work almost constantly in the presence of other staff members and clients.
• Be flexible in attitude and work habits.
• Quickly learn how to pronounce, know the meaning of and spell commonly used veterinary terms.
• Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odours, noises, and animal faeces. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• The fundamental responsibility of the general manager is to effectively use all available resources to provide the best possible patient care to animals treated/handled by the hospital and ensure the hospital''s profitability.
• Ensure the hospital runs smoothly, allowing veterinarians and animal care staff to focus exclusively on the health of the animals.
