JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our client is a world-class distributor and manufacturer of specialty and functional chemicals.

The purpose of this role is to strategically organize, store, and manufacture/pack products for the organization. Business value contribution is by leading and co-ordinating Operations (storage and production) in a manner that contributes to profits, eliminates unnecessary costs whilst meeting or exceeding all agreed safety, regulatory, and stakeholder requirements.

We require an expert in managing all distribution, warehousing, and production departments in a chemical environment.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • University / Post Graduate Degree or similar in operations management or engineering.
  • General Experience: Wide and deep experience providing expert competence (15 years+) in operations, manufacturing, and warehousing
  • 10 years experience in a senior operation and/or engineering role ideally in the chemical industry
  • Managerial Experience: Experienced in strategic management and leadership across company functions directing substantial resources over long-time frames (8 years and up). Proven track record in production, warehousing and chemical environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Product and Service Optimisation

  • Setting up the unit with appropriate structures, infrastructure, and resources to contribute to operational, profit, and client service objectives of the company.
  • Set overall performance and business objectives for the unit in support of business objectives.
  • Define, develop and implement policies, procedures, and processes that will ensure alignment, excellence, continuous improvement within the unit

Profit Enablement.

  • Optimal configuration of unit making to enable decision making regarding best value performance (e.g. insourced/outsourced) to enable optimal value delivery in a changing environment.
  • Adapt to the changing environment in which the company operates taking into account regulatory changes, market changes, supplier changes, profitability target changes etc.
  • Meeting and exceeding customer-defined requirements by ensuring optimal usage of infrastructure and facilities across all markets in which company chooses to operate.

Risk Management and Control

  • Advise management pro-actively on critical trends, environmental changes, financial risks, and current as well as pending legislative changes and take proactive preventative measures to ensure compliance.
  • Informed decisions and timeous actions necessary to limit risks to company sustainability from a production perspective.
  • Develop guiding policies, implement and ensure compliance to all legislation, systems of governance, Codes of Practice (e.g. ISO), and Group frameworks.
  • Systems and service excellence culture for customer responsiveness and reliable delivery.

Operational Enablement

  • Unit optimization by defining, acquiring & enhancing of technology, practice, finance & people to deliver maximum support to the organization cost-effectively and with optimization of resources aligned with company profitability objectives.
  • Facilitating synergy and congruency between all domain units to ensure a common focus.
  • Sense, define and manage the impact that changes within the unit may have on other support functions and the core business to minimize the impacts of possible changes.
  • Setting the tone, develop and maintain performance, business services, and client-responsive culture within the unit, in line with the strategic and business objectives of the organization.
  • Evaluates Performance against plans and decide on corrective action to enhance the unit’s performance in support of business objectives, e.g. structural change, systems change, redeployment of people, etc.
  • Identify, implement and manage employee development and skills transfer through various onboarding and training initiatives.

Stakeholder Management

  • Identify, build and maintain key relationships, from a financial perspective, that adds value to the sustainability of the company, i.e. key internal as well as external relations.
