Main purpose
Design and correct implementation of Clients active network, cost effective, best in breed technology and required network architecture facilitating client requests, ensuring that the company’s strategic goals and business objectives are meet.
The role involves providing overall design (High and Low level) and correct implementation of active network equipment ensure all service requests are met via end to end network automation.

Working Conditions
• Mostly Office bound
• Required to attend client meetings
• Required to do regional visits

Competencies and Minimum Requirements:
Knowledge, qualifications and experience
• Grade 12
• National Diploma in Engineering or equivalent qualification
• 15 years’ experience in the telecoms industry
• In-depth Knowledge of Transmission Network
• In-depth Knowledge of Network NMS Systems.
• In-depth Knowledge of both optic fibre and wireless systems and its capabilities
• In-depth Knowledge of optical and wireless equipment
• Must have in-depth understanding of active networks and the various layers.
• Knowledge on Automation
• Knowledge on SDN and NFV
• In-depth understanding of:
• IGP
• BGP
• SR
• ISIS
• OSFP
• GPON
• Ethernet
• Packet
• Optical systems
• DWDM
• Working knowledge of service OAM

ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS & TASKS) KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
• Accountable for the design of the CLIENT National Active Network always ensuring a state of art and cost effective design
• Manage and approve network design changes.
• Train and upskill the build and provisioning Team
• Develop, monitor and continuously improve the network design, functionality and features
o Continues lab testing
o Ensure service comply to product rules
o Resource requirements
o Analyse network performance and advice on changes or upgrades required.
• Provide possible strategic solutions and innovations
• CLIENT’s short and long term strategies to always be considered when suggesting network design and procedural changes
• Develop High level and Low level Network documentation.
• Equipment Conformance Testing
• Service Certification testing
• Technology selection
• Lab POC testing
• Root Cause Analysis reports
• Element Software testing
• NMS Software upgrades • Ensure Active Network is fit for purpose.

3. Active products feasibility

• Ensure that Network model provides for all products and different scenarios
• Ensure all new products and Customer solutions are feasible and can be supported by Network infrastructure.

• Customer Orders can be provisioned
• Network resilience
• Data accuracy
• Monthly Reports available

4. Product Management

• Ensure Products are fit for purpose
• Ensure new product can be fully supported timeously
• Provide product and configuration training to staff
• Training and upskilling
• Ensure all product configuration is full documented.
• Ensure Network design adheres to agreed standards
• Ensure network is continually updated and running latest software releases.
• Provide feedback to staff and manage network performance
• Facilitate training sessions Measurements

• Network supports product catalogue
• Ensure divisional KPIs can be met.

5. Internal and External Client Relations

• Manage all new product requests timeously.
• Provide high level support to the Network Team
• Meet with clients periodically to discuss

o Provide solutions on client network Design
o Advise on client products and how best they will suite clients requirements

6. Miscellaneous

• Attend to any other relevant and reasonable tasks as may be required from time to time

Technical Skills:

Network planning tools Knowledge on various tools require to design and build an Active Network

General Computer Literacy Excellent working knowledge of NMS systems and Planning Tools.

IT Networking Excellent understanding and problem solving ability regarding ICT networking within Telecoms arena
Networking Implements a Network that enables users of data communications lines to exchange information over long distances by connecting with each other through a system of routers, servers, switches, and the like.
