JOB SUMMARY:
International Telecommunications company seeking Head of Engineering (senior manager), who will provide the functional and strategic leadership of the South Africa Engineering projects team. They will be responsible for overseeing multiple projects including managing subcontractors and staff in carrying out day-to-day civil and electrical site works to assure projects are delivered successfully and within planned scope, time and cost. They should have good financial knowledge, have the ability to build project plans with clear milestones and have good communication and reporting skills.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsibilities include:

Lead the Engineering Projects team of Power and Civil Engineers to deliver on projects and ensure strong people development.
Achieve functional excellence through managing the “customer” dimension of the business, for the Engineering Projects function
Build clear project plans and roadmaps, which can be complex and cover multiple geographies.
Communicate and record updates from supervisors/engineers at sites on daily basis
Work with Procurement & Supply Chain to ensure logistics and stock inventory (i.e. equipment transportation) is sufficient and follow up with equipment deliveries
Liaise with the Head of Capital Projects on updates and site issues
Manage issues arising from sites (tasks, SAQ, or permit related)
Own acceptance procedures
Accountable to ensure that all site build and upgrade is in accordance with site drawings and standards practice
Coordinate all activities (reporting, workflow, deliveries, KPIs, invoicing, etc…) with SBCs, supervisors, and teams involved
Manage all sites civil upgrades (tenants request)
Manage relevant site issue escalations
Monitor customer satisfaction and delivery on time
Follow up on site documentation

Qualifications and experience required:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / electromechanical or Civil Engineering
Project management qualification (i.e. Prince 2)
8+ years of experience working in Telecom / power industries
Extensive project management experience
Extensive management experience of teams of Engineers.
