POSITION INFO:

OUR CLIENT is an award-winning global research organisation located on the campus of the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine in Durban, and undertakes research in HIV, TB and Covid at four clinical research sites in KwaZulu-Natal.

Their goal is to undertake globally relevant and locally responsive research that contributes to understanding HIV Vaccines and Pathogenesis, Prevention and Epidemiology, the links between Tuberculosis and AIDS treatment and Covid-19.

The Head of Information Technology will provide vision and leadership in developing and implementing information technology initiatives aligned to business strategies, with the primary aim to ensure that reliable, efficient and effective technology systems and solutions are delivered, within the IT governance framework.

Qualifications and experience:

• A Degree or National Diploma in Information Systems or related field; Industry recognized certifications, such as: Enterprise Administrator or Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional certification.
• Proven experience of at least 5 years, being responsible for the overall strategic direction of ICT infrastructure and information technology systems and services of a medium size organisation, with experience in a clinical research or medical environment preferable.
• Experience in designing/developing IT systems and planning IT implementation; configuring networks, Microsoft Systems and virtualized servers, as well as data storage solutions; Linux and open source technology, database (MYSQL and MSQL) and development management.
• Extensive experience with vendor and supplier management, including drafting and monitoring of service level agreements and extensive project scoping and implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Determine IT Strategy and ensure overall alignment to Business Strategy; Ensure Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans are in place and tested regularly
• Oversee all technology operations including Security of data, network access and backup systems
• Manage IT Infrastructure and software
• Oversee IT purchasing
• Manage IT Departmental staff and day to day operations
