POSITION INFO:

Our client, a leading South African skincare manufacturer, is seeking a Head of Research & Development to lead the company’s innovation, scientific direction, and product development strategy.

This executive role forms part of EXCO, reporting directly to the CEO, and will work closely with the Founder in shaping the future of the product portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the R&D and innovation strategy aligned to business growth.
• Lead the full new product development pipeline from concept through to commercialisation.
• Oversee formulation direction, ensuring product efficacy, stability, and performance.
• Ensure all products meet local and international regulatory requirements.
• Drive continuous innovation through new ingredients, technologies, and delivery systems.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the R&D team.
• Manage R&D budgets, timelines, and project delivery.
• Engage at executive level, translating scientific concepts into commercial value.

Requirements

• 10+ years’ experience in cosmetic or skincare R&D.
• Proven leadership experience in managing R&D or product development teams.
• Strong technical understanding of skincare formulation and active ingredients.
• Solid knowledge of cosmetic regulations, product testing, and claims substantiation.
• Ability to balance scientific depth with commercial decision-making.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including working at executive level.
• Relevant Post Graduate qualification in Chemistry or related field.

Important to note

• This is a full-time, office-based role in Parow, Cape Town.
• Candidates must already be based in the Western Cape or willing to relocate at their own cost.
