Gijima is recruiting 1 x FRONT END DEVELOPER intern for the Engineering and Architecture team.

POSITION INFO:
The criteria is as follows:-

• Currently studying toward, or recently completed, a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Interaction Design, or related field.
• Basic knowledge of core web technologies: HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and comfort using a code editor/IDE.
• Understanding of responsive design and browser fundamentals.
• Ability to work in a team, take feedback, and communicate clearly.
• Eligible to work in South Africa and able to be on-site in Johannesburg as required.

• HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+); basic awareness of TypeScript is an advantage.
• Exposure to at least one modern framework (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue).
• Basic API consumption (REST/JSON), handling forms and input validation.
• Awareness of accessibility (WCAG basics), usability, and responsive layouts.
• Fundamental debugging skills and an interest in performance best practices.
• Familiarity with component-based UI thinking and design systems.

• Git/GitHub (branching, pull requests), npm/yarn, basic CLI usage.
• Understanding of testing concepts (e.g., unit tests) and CI/CD awareness (nice to have).
• Documentation habits and willingness to follow coding standards.

• User empathy, attention to detail, problem-solving mindset.
• Collaboration, openness to feedback, and a growth/learning orientation.

• Build and refine small UI components and pages under mentorship.
• Connect frontend components to backend APIs and handle basic input validation.
• Test features across common browsers and screen sizes; fix bugs with guidance.
• Write clean, readable code and contribute to documentation.
• Participate in code reviews and team ceremonies; demo work where appropriate.
• Follow the team’s design system and coding standards; help keep them consistent.
• Support simple performance and accessibility improvements (e.g., image/asset optimisation, semantic markup).

• Basic experience with React/Angular/Vue and a CSS preprocessor (SASS/LESS) or utility CSS (e.g., Tailwind).
• Exposure to automated testing (Jest/Cypress) or pipelines (GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps).
• A small portfolio or GitHub with examples of projects or coursework.
