Key Accounts Manager - Mining (Alberton)

SUMMARY:
The Key Accounts Manager – Mining is responsible for driving sales growth and profitability within the clients mining segment. The role includes managing strategic mining accounts, developing new business opportunities and coordinating sales activities in line with the company’s business plan. The main goal is to build and maintain long-term customer relationships, understand customer operational and project requirements, and promote the relevant products and solutions. The role works closely with sales teams, product specialists and internal departments to deliver customer value, achieve agreed sales and gross profit targets, and ensure effective use of company-defined sales processes and tools.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Matric.
• A relevant tertiary or trade qualification in Engineering, Sales, Marketing or Business Management is desirable, supported by suitable industry experience and application knowledge.
• Relevant technical sales or product certifications would be advantageous.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Minimum five years’ experience in technical sales or key account management within the valve, pump, mining or related industrial equipment sector.
• Understanding of mining customers’ operational, maintenance, procurement and project needs.
• Proven sales performance, account growth, new business development and account planning.
• Working knowledge of valve selection, sizing and applications, and interpretation of technical requirements.
• Experience preparing costings, quotations, tenders and commercial proposals.
• Strong negotiation, presentation and customer relationship management skills.
• Experience in sales budgeting, forecasting, pipeline management and reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant sales and customer-management systems.
• Ability to coordinate cross-functional teams, meet deadlines and travel within the assigned territory.

POSITION INFO:
RESPONSIBILITIES: Key Account Management and External Sales: Manage and develop relationships with designated mining key accounts and relevant customer stakeholders. Develop and maintain account plans covering customer requirements, growth opportunities, relationship priorities and agreed actions. Build relationships across customer procurement, engineering, operations, maintenance and project functions. Understand customer operations, plant requirements, purchasing processes and planned projects. Conduct planned customer visits, presentations and account reviews. Promote the relevant product range, service offering and technical capabilities. Identify opportunities to increase the range of products and solutions supplied to existing customers. Coordinate, negotiate and finalise sales within approved pricing and commercial authority limits. Follow up on quotations and update their status on Business Central or the designated company system. Monitor outstanding orders and coordinate customer communication regarding deliveries and changes. Receive, coordinate or escalate customer complaints and follow through on agreed actions. Work with Finance to resolve account-related queries and support overdue payment escalations where required. Mining Segment Planning and Commercial Performance: Develop and implement the Mining segment sales plan in alignment with the company's business plan. Contribute to the preparation of annual segment sales, gross profit and expense budgets. Achieve agreed monthly and annual segment sales and gross profit targets. Monitor performance against budget, identify shortfalls and implement corrective actions. Identify market trends, competitor activity and customer developments that may affect the segment. Coordinate Mining segment sales priorities with relevant sales teams and internal stakeholders. Manage segment-related expenses within approved budgets. Provide management with recommendations on growth opportunities, product requirements and resource needs. Business Development, Projects and Specifications: Research and identify potential mining customers, projects and new business opportunities. Develop relationships with consultants, engineering houses, contractors, distributors and other stakeholders serving mining customers. Promote the inclusion of relevant products in customer specifications and approved supplier lists. Identify and coordinate vendor registrations, tender submissions and framework-agreement opportunities. Build and maintain a qualified sales pipeline with clear next actions and expected timelines. Update the project tracker regularly and monitor opportunities from identification through to outcome. Work with the relevant managers of other segments to clarify account ownership and coordinate opportunities involving shared customers or projects. Track new customer acquisition, project progress and conversion of opportunities into orders.
