JOB SUMMARY:
Location: Cape Town – Western Cape
Reporting to: Head Brewer
Function: Brewing
This company is looking for an exciting, dynamic, and ambitious individual to join the team at a leading Cape Town based brewery.

Overall Responsibility: The Lead Brewers is fully responsible for execution of the production according to the production schedule; Must co-ordinate and manage all lab activities; Preparing beers for packaging and ensure specifications are met; Quality management and record keeping of all brewing related aspects; Manage raw material and chemical inventory and ordering along with procurement ; Maintain very strict hygiene within the brewery ; Staff control and management and delegate to various staff members ; Co-ordinate equipment maintenance along with the maintenance team.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Responsibilities:

Focus Area 1: Lead Brewer

Fully responsible for production according to the brew schedule
Must review all brewing operations, manage the brewing team and look to optimise processes
Oversee and manage the lab team, experienced in Yeast management and interpretation of chemical analysis
Manage and reduce losses
Preparing beers for packaging and sensory sign off
Look at ways to improve and innovate withing the brewing space
Planning and purchasing chemicals and raw materials management
Must control the sanitary aspects of brewery, grain room and grain storage
Highly organised to manage the full brewing staff compliment
Respect all equipment and maintain it in good running order along with maintenance

Focus Area 2: Quality Management

Highly focussed on quality management and record keeping of all brewing related aspects
Coordinate the tasting panel for strict adherence to the sensory aspects of the brands

Focus Area 3: Leadership, People Management and Development

Support and entrench the company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, key employee retention and development, and high performance.
Inspire and motivate the broader SHP team (not just your direct reports) to deliver on goals and maximize individual and the overall company performance
Provide overside and direction to your team
Recruit, development and performance management of your direct reports

Requirements of the Role:

Tertiary education in Engineering, Microbiology or Chemistry
An advanced understanding of all aspects of brewing including cellaring, yeast handling, CIP, and sanitization
IBD or an equivalent diploma in Brewing science
Minimum 5 years brewing experience
Valid driver’s license/own transport

Required Skills:

Strong organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and good critical thinking/problem solving skills
Must have the schedule availability to work long and/or odd hours as needed to complete tasks and maintain the brewing operations.
Flexibility in terms of hours and a willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and overtime
Computer literate with an understanding of Microsoft Office/spreadsheet programs
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to multi-task
