NOW RECRUITING – EXPERIENCED 5* LUXURY GAME LODGE MANAGER for the award-winning Silvan Safari Lodge, Sabi Sands who will take responsibility for the smooth and efficient operation of the Lodge as their primary operational responsibility.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Diploma or equivalent in Hospitality Management / Leadership
  • Extensive Background in BIG 5 LUXURY GAME Lodge Operations essential and not negotiable
  • Min three (3) years of previous experience in overseeing operations of a luxury 5-Star Big 5 Game Lodge as a lodge Manager
  • Proficient in International styles of service
  • Proficient in the application of Up-Sell and Cross-Sell strategies
  • Proficient in property specific management software
  • Proficient in the application of Financial good practice
  • Proficient in the management of the various booking channels 
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office software applications
  • South African Citizens only

The Lodge Manager oversees, coordinates and direct the service, operations, logistics and activities of the Lodge, befitting Silvan Safari. The Lodge Manager takes responsibility for the smooth and efficient operation of the Lodge as their primary operational responsibility.

The Lodge Manager responds to the requests that are presented by the Guests, Department Managers, and the Market (where involving services provided by the Lodge).

The Lodge Manager supports the Operations Management in implementing the organisation plans for the Lodge operations.
This role works closely with the relevant Department Teams to ensure a coordinated effort between the different teams and to ensure service and product is delivered in excellence, that facilities and equipment are in perfect condition and working order. The role also ensures that guests receive exceptional levels of personalised service.  

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement and monitor policies, processes and standards to ensure effective high-quality Lodge service is provided to guests
  • Implement and monitor processes that facilitate immediate response to Service requests received from guests
  • Provide direction, oversight and guidance to the Lodge team
  • Implement and monitor the annual plan and activities for the Lodge
  • Implement and monitor with senior Food and Beverage leaders, Lodge & department par-stock levels for utensils, chinaware, glassware, flatware, hollowware, cutlery, table linen and other items required for the operation of Food and Beverage Restaurant department
  • Implement and monitor with Lodge Management, department par-stock levels for chemicals, amenities, linen and other items required for the operation of Housekeeping department
  • Support the purchasing function in selecting suitable suppliers for Lodge materials
  • Implement and monitor implementation of an effective keys control system for areas relevant to the Lodge, ensuring safety and security of guests, fellow employees, residents, equipment and supplies
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration of the Lodge team
  • Support the Stewarding function to implement and monitor an effective pest control system for Lodge areas and monitor and report the effectiveness of the system
  • Effectively utilises software applications and communication tools that are used to facilitate the booking, arrival, stay and departure of residents and guests
  • Effectively manages processes and systems that enable guests to be comfortably accommodated to the highest standards of the lodge
  • § Effectively utilises property management software and tools to monitor the preferences of Guests, and ensure a personalised experience for every guest by means of creative application of the system throughout the guest experience
  • Effectively manages processes and systems that ensure the safety and security of the lodge, its guests and employees
  • Takes accountability for the performance of the functions of the lodge
  • Ensure world-class service is delivered to the Guest, in all lodge areas, by collaborating with the Teams on all matters impacting the Guest service provision
  • Together with the relevant teams and specialists, ensures that policies, processes and standards directly affecting the Guests do reflect their safety, security concerns and preferences
  • Takes charge of implementing, and ensuring that the maintenance of, processes and systems that ensure the delivery of highly personalised service is executed by the Lodge team
  • Assists with the implementation and monitoring of processes and systems that ensure the highest levels of confidentiality and security of information
  • Together with the Lodge Anchors, ensure that each meal period is hosted by a senior lodge manager
  • Together with the Human Resources specialists, supports the selection of appropriately competent employees
  • Together with the Management team implements practices and activities to support the continuous development of the lodge team members
  • Completes feedback and performance appraisals for Direct Reports in time and according to the required standards
  • Creates an environment that contributes to positive employee engagement and commitment to the job
  • Working with the Management Team, ensures that all policies, processes and standards affecting the Guests are complete and documented to guide and direct activities
  • With the Head Chef, works to achieve the highest standards of Culinary Excellence, as would be expected of a Luxury 5 Star Game Lodge
  • With the Safari team, works to ensure that the Safari Experience ranks among the finest in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Ensures that the Lodge Team members know of, understand, comply with and apply relevant quality related standards policies, processes, rules and procedures
  • Notices and communicates opportunities to further improve quality standards
  • Analyses guest feedback system reports for improvement opportunities and works with Lodge & Department Teams to implement change to improve feedback metrics
  • Assists the Lodge Operations Manager to develop, implement and monitor systems and methods that capture and communicate Guests’ preferences, likes and dislikes as appropriate without compromising their privacy
  • With the Maintenance and Safari teams, manages and reports on sustainability objectives
  • Works with Management and Department Teams to prepare and propose the annual budgets for the Lodge’s needs and activities
  • With the Lodge teams, works to achieve all Revenue, GOP, COS, and EBITDA objectives
  • Makes request for CAPEX and manages the implementation of CAPEX projects within the budget
  • Monitors lodge team’s attendance and leave balances to prevent unnecessary expenditure on staffing
  • Monitors the usage of equipment and consumption of stock 
  • Working with finance and purchasing, ensures inventory and par stock levels are appropriate to ensure consistent levels of quality service
  • Working with the Rooms and Finance Teams, ensures that bookings are secured through taking deposits, Debtors Days are within specification, rooms are Released within Cancellation Policy, and opportunities for Up-Sell and Cross-Sell are maximised
  • Works to ensure that all lodge spaces and facilities are maintained in impeccable and fully functional condition
  • Takes active steps to ensure private, sensitive and confidential information is not accessible to unauthorised persons
  • Ensures a dogmatic application of all safety, security and health measures for the protection of residents and guests
