Manager: Operational Risk and Compliance

SUMMARY:
The main purpose of the job is to manage the Operational Risk & Compliance function within the Financial Markets Department (FMD) of the company by providing effective leadership, guidance and strategic direction to the Operational Risk and Compliance Management team. (OPSCOM).

POSITION INFO:

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Provide strategic direction and day-to-day operational guidance and support to the OPSCOM.
• Co-ordinate and manage the operational risk and compliance reporting of the FMD activities, and provide management information for escalation to top management and relevant committees.
• Benchmark and keep abreast of operational risk and compliance standards, industry best practice and technological advancements, and ensure alignment thereof to the OPSCOM function.
• Ensure that the FMD is compliant with all relevant global and local financial markets legislation.
• Provide input into the development of the reserves management and the Corporation for Public Deposits investment policies and investment guidelines, and ensure compliance thereto within FMD.
• Lead and manage the auditing process on behalf of the FMD as it pertains to internal and external audits.
• Manage the development and maintenance of the operational risk framework, key risk indicators and checklists to ensure the soundness of operational risk within FMD. 
• Provide assurance to the Deputy Governor: Markets, of operational and risk compliance of the FMD.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Have an Honours Degree in Finance, Auditing and/or Investment Risk Management, or an equivalent qualification;
• Have at least 8-10 years of experience in the treasury environment of a financial institution, with at least three years of these in a management role;
• Working knowledge and experience of financial markets and instruments; and
• Working knowledge and experience of ICT/Risk systems.

The following will be an added advantage:

• Compliance qualification accredited by the SA Institute of Financial Markets and/or STRATE/JSE (an added advantage)
• Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA); Professional Risk Management (PRM); Financial Risk Manager (FRM)
