Managing Director – Insurance & Financial Services (East Africa) Location: Kampala, Uganda Executive Leadership | Financial Services | Insurance About the Opportunity An established, pan-African financial services group with a strong footprint across banking and insurance is seeking a Managing Director to lead its insurance operations in Uganda. This organisation is recognised for its integrated financial services model, combining deep regional expertise with global best practices to deliver innovative, customer-centric solutions. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving strategic growth, operational excellence, and market leadership within the insurance business. Role Overview Reporting into the Group Executive leadership structure, the Managing Director will be responsible for: Defining and executing the country strategy aligned to broader group objectives Driving financial performance , sustainable growth, and market share expansion Leading business transformation initiatives , including digital enablement Embedding a high-performance culture and strong governance framework Strengthening distribution channels and customer value propositions Managing key stakeholder relationships, including regulators, board members, and industry bodies Identifying and executing strategic partnerships and acquisition opportunities This is a highly visible executive role requiring a commercially astute leader with a strong track record in insurance and financial services. Key Requirements Qualifications Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Insurance, or related field Professional insurance qualification (e.g. Diploma in Insurance or ACII) is advantageous Experience Minimum 10 years’ senior leadership experience within the financial services sector At least 5 years in insurance at an executive or senior management level Demonstrated success in: Leading large, complex teams Delivering financial and strategic objectives Driving business growth and transformation Building sustainable, high-performance organisations Core Competencies Strategic leadership and execution excellence Strong commercial and financial acumen Advanced stakeholder engagement and relationship management Deep understanding of risk, compliance, and governance frameworks Proven change management and transformation capability Customer-centric mindset with a focus on service differentiation Strong appreciation of digital innovation in insurance Entrepreneurial thinking with resilience under pressure What Success Looks Like Delivery of profitable growth and improved market positioning Enhanced customer and intermediary experience Strong alignment with group strategy and operational integration Robust governance and risk management practices A motivated, high-performing leadership team Remuneration A highly competitive, market-related executive package paid in US$ and inclusive of full Ex-Pat benefits will be offered, commensurate with experience and impact.
