My client in the wastewater sector is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Head / Civil Engineer to lead their mechanical design function, drive technical excellence, and align engineering delivery across projects

POSITION INFO:
Minimum requirements:

• Matric
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Professional registration advantageous)
• Proven experience in a mechanical design leadership role, preferably within water or wastewater treatment
• Strong technical expertise in piping systems, pump stations, and mechanical plant design
• Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams
• Solid project management capability, including cost, schedule, and quality control
• Strong working knowledge of EHS, quality systems, and regulatory compliance standards
• Proficiency in CAD design platforms and project management tools (e.g. Microsoft Project)
• Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills

• Lead and oversee mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment projects
• Review, approve, and ensure accuracy of drawings, specifications, and technical calculations
• Ensure designs are cost-effective, energy-efficient, sustainable, and fit for purpose
• Provide technical leadership across all project phases, from planning and procurement through construction and commissioning
• Coordinate resources and align multidisciplinary teams to meet project timelines and deliverables
• Ensure all engineering work complies with quality, health & safety, and environmental standards
• Collaborate closely with Production and Manufacturing to ensure designs are practical and buildable
• Lead, coach, and manage the mechanical design team, providing guidance on complex design challenges
• Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and best-practice design standards to reduce risk and improve project outcomes
• Manage assigned projects, including cost, schedule, quality, subcontractors, and overall delivery performance
