Mechanical Engineer

Our Client, a National Group Leader in the Manufacturing industry, has an “Open to all” South African Citizen opportunity for a suitably qualified Heavy Engineering B.Tech (Mech Eng) Mechanical Engineer (Front-End and Boilers) for their Kwa-Zulu Natal (Midlands) Food Processing Operation [R 770K TCTC per annum].

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The successful incumbent will drive world class practices to optimise all mechanical equipment on site by identifying and providing improvements to maximise efficiency of the plant mechanical equipment and provide specialised engineering support to the factory to enable it to achieve performance targets.

KEY PERFORMAMCE AREAS:

• Promote and adhere to Company’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)

• Ensure optimal performance of all Front-End mechanical equipment.

• Provide technical and overall leadership to Front-End maintenance personnel.

• Drive Maintenance improvements to optimise efficiency and output of Front-End and Boiler mechanical equipment.

• Provide expertise on day-to-day engineering related issues, support and advise on solutions.

• Audit Front-End maintenance teams in terms of Group requirements.

• Develop and manage budgets with section foreman, maintenance head, finance business partner.

• Promote cross-functional and stakeholder engagement and teamwork.

• Engage effectively and collaborate with key suppliers/contractors.

• Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues.

• Audit and analyse maintenance systems with the aim of uncovering engineering related inefficiencies.

• Address production losses caused by inefficient maintenance systems by critically analysing and optimising the systems performance.

• Provide engineering support for specifications and plant modifications.

• Responsible for Statutory Requirements as delegated by Maintenance Manager.

• Promote a culture of consistently assessing risks and drive continuous improvement throughout operations

• Provide engineering support to the Factory team in terms of equipment settings for the season

• Manage/oversee pre-agreed on-site abnormal maintenance and capital projects

• Develop and drive improvement projects to ensure current assets are maximised to their full potential

• Drive adherence to Group technical, risk and best maintenance practices standards and management of technical governance requirements.

• Model leadership behaviours, collaborating, partnering and communicating effectively within and between teams.

• Set direction, implement, and monitor continuous improvement by driving work practices, and ensuring that tools and techniques are being applied to deliver high quality products made in a safe and sustainable manner

Minimum specifications / Competency Requirements:

• Degree (NOT Diploma) in Mechanical Engineering

• 3+ years’ experience in manufacturing environment – heavy industry

• Continuous improvement knowledge and experience
