Planning Geologist

POSITION INFO:

ROLE OVERVIEW:

• To provide a computerised short, medium and long term mine planning service, reserve modelling, mine design and rehabilitation and closure plans to all group quarries and projects.
• Produce reliable and timeous mine plans to clients.
• Produce reliable and timeous dumping and rehabilitation plans to clients.
• Assistance with mine closure costing for all sites.
• Conduct optimisation and scheduling/ phasing of deposits.
• Compliance with legal requirements.
• Plan and manage exploration drilling projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

• BSc Honours degree in Geology

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum 10 years general geology, mine planning, open pit mining experience and exposure to exploration activities
• An Examine and Make Safe certificate would be an added software
• Registration with SACNASP would be an added advantage
• Must be proficient in mine planning software (Surpac), as well as AutoCAD and Arc GIS
• Cement industry and environmental (Quantum costs calculations and EMPR) experience will be an added advantage

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Computer literacy:

• Specialized mining software knowledge and experience (Surpac) as well as GIS and CAD software
• Proficiency in database software (MS Excel and Access)
• Computer literacy and proficiency – operating systems, other software and hardware issues
• Knowledge of surface mining
• Technical communication skills (including report writing)
• Ability to deal with people at all levels

KEY OUTPUTS:

• Life of Mine Phase and Annual plans for Group quarries
• Optimisation and preservation of reserves and resource evaluation
• Phasing and scheduling of raw materials for specified sites
• Surpac outputs including database creation/ management, ore body optimisation and modelling, geo-statistical evaluation, block modelling, pit and dump design and in pit resource/reserve reporting
• Managing the environmental footprint against the mine closure plans
• Dump designs, drafting dumping, concurrent rehabilitation and closure plans
• Reviewing and costing of closure plans
• Reviewing of Code of Practices for fall of ground and related regulatory documentation
