SUMMARY:
Are you a technically strong finance professional with a passion for leadership and client-centric delivery? A leading player in the insurance and financial services space is looking for a Portfolio Accounting Manager to take ownership of a portfolio of clients while leading and developing a high-performing team.

POSITION INFO:
This role offers the opportunity to combine technical accounting expertise, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership within a dynamic and specialised environment.

Role Overview:
You will be responsible for managing the full accounting function across a portfolio of clients, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and operational excellence. In addition, you will lead a team of accountants, providing guidance, oversight, and continuous development.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the full accounting function for a portfolio of clients, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness
Review and oversee financial transactions, journals, reconciliations, and reporting deliverables
Ensure that all payments, documentation, and approvals meet internal controls and governance standards
Prepare and review monthly and year-end financial reporting
Identify, investigate, and resolve accounting and reporting issues
Drive adherence to reporting deadlines and service level agreements
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and clients
Support audits by preparing required documentation and resolving audit queries
Contribute to process improvements and system enhancements
Leadership & Team Management:
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of accountants
- Review team outputs and provide technical guidance and support
- Drive performance management and foster a high-performance culture
- Facilitate skills transfer, training, and continuous development within the team
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients and internal stakeholders
- Deliver on service level agreements and enhance client experience
- Provide insights and recommendations to improve financial processes and reporting

Minimum Requirements:

Completed articles / SAICA traineeship
CA(SA) qualification (preferred)
3–5 years’ experience within short-term insurance accounting
Strong technical accounting and financial reporting skills
Proven leadership or supervisory experience
