SUMMARY:
My client, a restricted Medical Aid Scheme is looking for an experienced Principal Officer to oversee and be accountable for the overall direction of the scheme, coordinate efforts of senior executives, and work with the Board of Trustees, to develop short, medium, and long-term strategic objectives, policies, and procedure for the scheme. The incumbent will represent the scheme to its members,

POSITION INFO:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the development and implementation of integrated strategy enabling the scheme to achieve its mandate.
  • Continuous articulate the short, medium and long-term plans to achieve the strategy and objectives of the scheme and communicate clearly to the scheme.
  • Ensure that proper registers, books, and records of all operations of the medical scheme are kept, and that proper minutes are kept of all resolutions passed by the board of trustees.
  • Ensure that proper control systems are employed by or on behalf of the medical scheme.
  • Ensure that adequate and appropriate information is communicated to the members  regarding their rights, benefits, contributions, and duties in terms of the rules of the medical scheme.
  • Obtain expert advice on legal, accounting and business matters as required, or on any other matter of which the members of the board of trustees may lack sufficient expertise.
  • Proactively identify the key industry and legislation dynamics facing the scheme or the industry and design appropriate strategies and interventions to ensure scheme sustainability.
  • Ensure a structured approach to the management of clinical risk function is implement and maintained based on favourable negotiated rates between the scheme and healthcare partners.
  • Ensure that the schemes customers’ experience is aligned to the scheme values and brand promise.
  • Accountable for the effective  overall performance of the scheme resources, as it relates to people, process, budget, technology, and customers.
  • Engage with external stakeholders to identify industry trends as well as strategic opportunities for the sustainability of the scheme.
  • Ensure efficient management of scheme financial resources, by maintaining the solvency ratio as stipulated by MSA.
  • Ensure sufficient management of the scheme resources by striking the required balance between the medical claims’ expenditure and non-healthcare costs.
  • Accountable for enlisting, building, and leading an agile people capacity that support the delivery of the scheme’s strategic objectives and maintain reasonable succession plan.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s in Business Administration or Post graduate qualification or MBCHB will be added advantage

 

Experience:

  • 5 – 10 years’ experience in a senior managerial role or similar
