The Role:

We are looking for an experienced Process Engineer for a 24-Month Fixed Term Contract with our client in Richards Bay.  

 

We require working knowledge from the Petrochemical, Process Plant, Paper and Pulp Industries.

To provide technical process engineering support as well as chemical engineering design support to ensure the sustainability and profitability of the plant.

 

Minimum educational level:

• BSc Chemical Engineering Degree or equivalent

 

Required Skills and Experience:

• 5 to 8 Years process engineering experience in the pulp paper, petroleum, water, sugar, energy, mining or related industries
• Relevant plant safety training and knowledge
• Previous Project Management experience is an advantage
• SAP skills will be advantageous
• Prior PI Process Book knowledge will be beneficial
• Previous exposure to / knowledge of Valmet will be beneficial

Duties and Responsibilities will include:

Technical / Process Engineering Support

• Identify â??best practicesâ?, newest technologies and bench mark the plant against these
• Implement â??best practicesâ? for plant through put, emission reduction, quality improvement and energy reduction
• Develop and prepare â??conceptsâ? into tangible projects (for which funding can be secured)
• Commission and optimise new processes
• Optimise existing processes to maximise production and reduce costs
• Investigate plant bottle necks, identify root causes, propose solutions and implement solutions
• Research and propose potential trials for new processes and/or equipment
• Develop and recommend process strategies to optimise the safe and efficient maximisation of production targets
• Set scientific and technical goals within broad outlines provided by top management
• Identify root causes of production anomalies and initiate rectifying actions required
• Conduct mass- and energy balances for Mill-wide usage
• Assist with various Mill Optimisation projects
• Coordinate various types of studies for pre-engineering / environmental purposes

 

Projects

• Analyse relevant technology, resource needs and market demand to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
• Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals relating to the integration of technical activities
• Assess OPEX and CAPEX when selecting relevant technology for a project and identify opportunities to reduce these costs
• Perform various administrative functions such as reviewing and writing of reports, compiling of capital projects in the annual CAPEX budget and budget control
• Conduct mass- and energy balances as per project requirements
• Carry out simulations of processes using simulation packages
• Conduct HAZOPs as per project requirements
• Conduct all required front end loading for projects
• Generate control philosophies and commissioning plans for all projects
• Prepare presentations for projects if and when required
• Liaise with Suppliers (OEMs) for all project requirements
• Deputise for the Head of Process when required

 

Safety, Health and Environment

• Assess the environmental impact of projects and ensure it complies with legislation and permit limits
• Provide tools for production team to monitor environmental impact of the process
• Liaise with maintenance / production staff to ensure that equipment is safe to use
• Ensure that new equipment complies with all relevant legislation
• Ensure compliance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Conduct Visible Felt Leadership Audits

 

Mill Development (short, medium and long term)

• Assist with scoping, front end loading and implementation of various mill development projects
• Aid in determining short, medium and long terms mill development strategies
• Conduct feasibility studies for all new mill development ideas
