  • Must be able to handle Dust, noise, gases, heat stress areas, chemical handling and exposure, working at heights
  Key Accountabilities:
  • Projects
  • Analyses relevant technology, resource needs and market demand to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
  • Coordinates and directs projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals relating to the integration of technical activities
  • Assess OPEX and CAPEX when selecting relevant technology for a project and identify opportunities to reduce these costs
  • Performs various administration functions such as reviewing and writing of reports, compiling of capital projects in the annual capex budget and budget control
  • Conducts mass- and energy balances as per project requirements
  • Carries out simulations of processes using simulation packages
  • Conducts HAZOPs as per project requirements and implement findings
  • Conducts all required front-end loading for projects (pre-engineering and basic engineering)
  • Generates control philosophies and commissioning plans for all projects, attend/lead Factory Acceptance Testing. Actively participate in hot- and cold commissioning of all projects
  • Prepares presentations for projects if and when required
  • Liaises with Suppliers (OEMs) for all project requirements
  • PFD and PID development
  • All relevant Detailed Engineering tasks, for example supplying process data, line and equipment lists, sizing calculations, design verification etc
  • Deputise for the Head of the process project when required

   

  • Safety, Health and Environment
  • Assess the environmental impact of projects and ensure it complies with legislation and permit limits
  • Provide tools for production team to monitor environmental impact of the process
  • Liaise with maintenance/production staff to ensure that equipment is safe to use
  • Ensure that new equipment complies with all relevant legislation
  • Ensure compliance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Conduct Visible Felt Leadership Audits

   

  • Technical/Process Engineering Support
  • Identify â??best practicesâ?, newest technologies and benchmark the clients against these
  • Implement â??best practicesâ? for plant through put, emission reduction, quality improvement and energy reduction
  • Develop and prepare â??conceptsâ? into tangible projects (for which funding can be secured) â?? Pre-engineering/feasibility studies
  • Commission and optimise new processes and large-scale projects
  • Process Engineering Design from base principles â?? for example, pipeline and pumping design, heat exchanger design, tank/reactor design etc
  • Investigate plant bottle necks, identify root causes, propose solutions and implement solutions
  • Researches and proposes potential trials for new processes and/or equipment
  • Develops and recommends process strategies to optimise the safe and efficient maximisation of production targets
  • Sets scientific and technical goals within broad outlines provided by top management
  • Identifies root causes of production anomalies and initiates rectifying actions required
  • Conducts mass- and energy balances for Mill-wide usage and for new Projects
  • Assists with various Mill Optimisation- and Environmental Improvement projects
  • Coordinates various types of studies for pre-engineering/environmental purposes

  Mill development (short, medium and long term)

  • Assist with scoping, front end loading and implementation of various mill development projects
  • Aid in determining short, medium- and long-term mill development strategies
  • Conduct feasibility studies for all new mill development ideas
