Main purpose of the job:

  • The Project Coordinator – TB Accountability Consortium will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Consortium, driving the project's advocacy strategy and management of related communications and materials development
  • The coordinator will also manage the engagement and outreach with Consortium members and other stakeholders

About RHAP:

  • The Rural Health Advocacy Project (RHAP), a syndicate of Wits Health Consortium, advocates for improved access to high quality, comprehensive health care services in rural areas to improve the health of the South African population
  • RHAP is a partnership between the Wits Centre for Rural Health, the Rural Doctors Association of Southern Africa (RuDASA), and SECTION 27, based in Johannesburg, South Africa
  • It was launched in August 2009 in response to the specific health challenges in rural areas

About TB Accountability Consortium:

  • Although South Africa has a robust TB policy environment, weak program implementation hinders program success
  • RHAP is leading a new advocacy initiative to drive greater government accountability toward achieving the country's TB goals
  • The TB Accountability Consortium brings together program experts, researchers, and civil society organizations to develop and implement a policy advocacy strategy to strengthen TB program implementation and improve government accountability

Key performance areas:

  • Coordinate development and implementation of the TB Accountability Consortium’s advocacy strategy and work plan for 2022, along with the director and senior management
  • Drive the day-to-day activities of the Consortium; including planning, organizing, participating in, and documenting Consortium meetings and workgroups
  • Draft reports, presentations, and talking points on projects & issues for managements' or own use as spokesperson
  • Undertake research and information gathering to support proposals, policy submissions, and opinion editorials
  • Identify and develop new programmatic opportunities, content, and activities in alignment with project priorities
  • Liaise with a graphic design agency to develop the TB accountability consortium website and related graphics/materials
  • Drive the writing/development of the annual state of the TB Report
  • Build and maintain strong and collaborative working relationships with RHAP staff
  • Establish mechanisms to facilitate information sharing and networking among key stakeholders and ensure timely and efficient information exchange
  • Represent TB Accountability project in relevant working groups, media spaces, and donor meetings as needed

Required minimum education and training:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in public health or a related field
  • Master's degree preferred

Required minimum work experience:

  • 2-5 years of work experience, ideally for a health or social justice NGO

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • Experience in advocacy/organizing; including writing briefs, giving presentations, and organizing and facilitating meeting spaces
  • Demonstrated experience working with a range of diverse stakeholders, including researchers, government and civil society
  • Administration experience
  • Experience in using social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter
  • Able to travel to rural provinces when required
  • Strong capabilities in taking initiative for managing teams and problem-solving
