RESEARCH NURSE

ONE (1) YEAR FIXED-TERM CONTRACT

The Research Nurse will be responsible for day-to-day nursing functions within a research-related environment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Nursing Degree or Diploma and Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse
  • At least 2 years nursing experience
  • NIMAART trained
  • At least 1 year experience in implanon insertion and removal
  • Knowledge of study protocol / regulations
  • Knowledge of HIV, and Sexually transmitted infections
  • Excellent Computer literacy (Ms Office)
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Language proficiency in English and IsiXhosa
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions
  • Ability to work harmoniously with youth of diverse backgrounds and sexual orientation.

Advantageous:

  • At least one year experience in a research environment
  • Training in First AID handling
  • GCP (Good Clinical Practice) certification
  • HSP (Human Subjects Protection) certification
  • Previous work experience in HIV research and sexual health or with adolescents
  • Working knowledge of an adolescent friendly clinical environment

Responsibilities:

  • Providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all participants regardless of age, race, gender or HIV status
  • Maintaining strict participant confidentiality
  • Providing pre- and post-test counselling, as well as risk reduction counselling, for clients
  • HIV testing
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Obtaining blood and urine samples, labelling and request relevant test
  • PrEP Initiation
  • Implant insertion and removal
  • Performing other participant care procedures as required
  • Entering data on electronic device.
  • Communicating with clinics and other NGOs
  • Assist with quality Control (QC) checks
