JOB DESCRIPTION:

Short Summary:

The main responsibility of this position is to ensure the compliance, implementation, monitoring, maintenance and evaluation of Southern Oil as an organisation.
You will also need to ensure the maintenance and improvement of the people-asset of the organisation.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining the Health and Safety Management Systems for all SOILL sites.
  • Performing Health, Safety and Environmental risk identification assessments and evaluations.
  • Investigation and recording of all accidents, incidents and environmental impacts.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and mitigating measures are implemented.
  • Ensure that Safety Committee Meetings are held regularly as per OHSA requirements.
  • Ensure that Health and Safety Representatives conduct weekly and monthly inspections.
  • Ensure that external contractors adhere to the Health and Safety Act and Policy of the Company.
  • Ensure that all external Contractor Safety Files are up to date and compliant with OHSA requirements.
  • Ensure the continuous Health and Safety training of all employees for all SOILL plants and sites.
  • Responsible for the effective management of all SOILL plants and site security and external security service.
  • Service providers to comply with security requirements set out as well as Food Safety requirements.
  • Responsible for the management of the onsite Occupational Health Nurse, onsite clinic and medical services.
  • Responsible to ensure that all SOILL staff pre-employment, annual and exit medicals are conducted.
  • Responsible for all staff medical records and the safekeeping thereof in the onsite clinic.
  • Appointed as COVID-19 Compliance Officer for all SOILL plants and sites.
  • Responsible for the implementation, maintenance and management of all COVID-19-related matters.
  • Responsible to ensure that all SOILL plants and site's fire detection and fire suppression systems.
  • Responsible to ensure that all SOILL plants and sites steam generators, pressure vessels, forklifts, lifting gear and mobile cranes are compliant.
  • Responsible to report back to management on deviations identified and required actions to be taken.
  • Ensure that Safety, Health and Environmental Reports and plant statistics are submitted to Management.
  • Ensure that inspections referring to Workshop and Maintenance are implemented.
  • Responsible to ensure that construction and installation processes of systems and new projects adhere to.
  • Appointed as Chairman of the organization's Health and Safety Committee.
  • Responsible for Safety/ COVID-19 induction programs for all employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Responsible to manage and maintain the onsite medical clinic and facilities.
Key Competencies:

Education and Experience

  • Emergency Care Practitioner with a Paramedic Certificate
  • Registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa)
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate in Health and Safety
  • SAMTRAC or OHS ACT Qualification is essential
  • 3 to 5 Years of OHS ACT experience
  • Experience in an FMCG or factory environment
Interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong administration and problem-solving skills
  • Good interpersonal, negotiation and networking skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of the OHSA and Regulations
  • Knowledge and understanding of NFPA 36, SANS 10400 and SANS 10139
  • Good understanding of relevant legislation in Health and Safety
  • Understanding of management principles to design and implement systems
  • Ability to understand and deal with diverse cultures
  • Ability to understand and maintain a Safety culture
  • Proven ability to manage health and safety requirements
