SUMMARY:
Senior Draughtsman
East Rand

Position Purpose
To lead the preparation of complex engineering designs and technical drawings while providing technical guidance to junior team members. The role is responsible for ensuring high-quality engineering documentation, supporting manufacturing operations, and driving continuous design improvement

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities Develop detailed 2D and 3D engineering designs and models. Produce complex manufacturing, assembly, and fabrication drawings. Review and approve drawings prepared by junior draughtsmen. Lead design and product development projects. Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs). Support engineering calculations and design verification activities. Ensure compliance with engineering standards, quality requirements, and company procedures. Investigate and resolve technical drawing and manufacturing issues. Mentor and train junior draughtsmen. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives. Coordinate drawing deliverables to meet project deadlines. Support production, maintenance, and project teams with technical expertise. Minimum Qualifications National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Draughting, or a related field. Advanced CAD certification advantageous. Experience 5-10 years of drafting and engineering design experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment. Technical Skills Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or equivalent CAD systems. Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Product design and development experience. Knowledge of manufacturing and quality systems. Key Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Leadership and mentoring ability. Project coordination skills. Excellent attention to detail. Effective communication and stakeholder management.
