SUMMARY:
Purpose of the Job:

Functions as a technical specialist or in a lead role in the design of Dx and Tx substations.
Under general direction, develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex engineering problems.
May provide technical guidance over a group or supervise engineering staff on projects of low to medium complexity.
May be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output.

Key Performance Areas (KPA’s):

Serves as a technical specialist and has knowledge and skill set to provide consultation and guidance to project teams.
Technology selection, site identification, SLD, GA and site plan development.
Equipment selection and lightning, lighting and earthing design, material specification and technical support for construction.
Develops and manages budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Performs research and development and innovation studies towards new product developments or revenue streams.
Actively participates in the Business Development tender process (scope clarification, costing, methodology and proposal input).
Responsible to identify business opportunities and leads.
Training & mentoring of lower-level professionals including top graduates entering the field of transmission and distribution substation design.
Reviewer engineering work or assignments and serves as the responsible charge for a project.
Actively coordinates with internal and external stakeholders.

POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements:

BSC Engineering or B Tech in either of the following: Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering.
Professional registration with ECSA (a requirement).

Other competencies and requirements:

At least 7 years technical experience in, Transmission and Distribution, systems.

Able to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects.
