Senior Financial Accountant

SUMMARY:
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Financial Accountant in Cape Town. The purpose of this role is to ensure the integrity of the financial data to enable accurate reporting from which analysis and decision making can be made.

POSITION INFO:

The Senior Financial Accountant reports directly to the Group Finance Manager. This position is responsible for producing accurate financial statements and managing the financial accountants and bookkeepers for their relevant companies in the Group. This position is required to review monthly VAT, provisional tax and income tax returns. You will be required to review journals at month-end and check loaded information on the ERP system. The Financial Accountants and Bookkeepers report directly to this position.

Internal Liaison takes place with the accounts and treasury team and business stakeholders. External liaison takes place with third party tax officials and auditors.


Duties and Responsibilities (Include but is not limited to):

• To review the month end journals and ensure bank reconciliations are actioned
• Ensure all recons are saved in the relevant folders
• To review the P &L for integrity and accuracy for input into the management and statutory reports
• Ensure all comments are captured and sent to Group Finance Manager for review before quarterly audits
• Identify issues and items to be addressed
• Ensures that all items are accurately reflected in the general ledger
• Analyses the nature of the transactions
• Liaises with relevant personnel in Finance department to determine whether real locations are required
• Liaise with the Senior Management Accountant to ensure accurate management accounts all allocations per budgets
• Review all statements for the group with the Group Finance Manager
• To accurately balance all relevant recons monthly and check every payment made by the company
• Provide guidance with regard to problems and corrective actions required
• To ensure that all journals for PayIn and PayOut partners are completed and accurately processed
• Identify whether the journals would require additional action to rectify it
• Ensure spreadsheet is updated and load correctly onto the ERP system
• To accurately and timeously submit VAT returns on a monthly basis.
• Analyse the VAT transactions on a monthly basis and identifies what can be claimed
• Compares VAT to previous month to identify large variances
• Check the calculations and documents compiled by the Financial Accountants
• To liaise with the external auditors to ensure all information is available for audits
• Address, or escalate if needed, any issues identified from the audit report
• Implement the necessary corrective actions based on audit report feedback
• To liaise with 3rd party tax officials and Tax Manager in order to resolve any identified issues
• Respond to all queries from the Tax Manager and Tax Officials timeously
• Resolve issues with regards to tax
• Escalate unresolved issues to Tax Manager when required
• To manage own professional and self-development
• To perform general people management functions for the financial accounts team
• Perform onboarding for new staff members and monitor their performance
• Monitor individual team members performance and targets
• Prepare for and hold monthly and bi-annual KPI meetings with each team member
• Coach and mentor team

Key Requirements:

• Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)
• Accounting qualification (Essential)
• CIMA or CA qualified (Essential)
• 3 - 5 years’ post article experience (Essential)
• Working in a multinational group (Desirable)
• Knowledge of SA accounting practices
• Knowledge of relevant tax and VAT legislation
• Knowledge of forex regulations
• Knowledge of drafting AFS
• Knowledge of computerized accounting packages (Xero/NetSuite/ Caseware)
