Senior MS SQL Database Administrator

SUMMARY:
Our Client is looking for a Data Base Administrator to join their team.

POSITION INFO:
Core functions:

• Work together in a team of diverse disciplines: MSSQL, and Oracle 11G
• Database administration related to:
• Installation, Upgrades and Patching.
• Start-up and shutdown.
• Database parameters
• Managing database files and space.
• Managing User accounts and profiles
• Managing Oracle TNS related issues and the listener
• Backup and recovery.
• Performance & Capacity management.
• Managing database objects (Table, indexes etc.)
• Managing database objects code related (Packages and procedures)
• Database management on Windows, AIX and Linux.
• Perform standby and callout duties as required.
• Consulting regarding database best practices.
• Creation, implementation and adherence of Change control processes and procedures for database and application changes
• DR validation and testing.
• Understanding, Writing and debugging of SQL code.
• OS related activities:
• Scripting of jobs for database administration on AIX, Linux and Windows.
• Automation, same as above point.
• Patching of database software.
• Creation of files system on AIX and Linux.
• Managing file systems on AIX and Linux.
• Monitor disk space.

• Experience with leading a team.
• At least 8 years experience as a Senior Database Administrator working within a team with MS SQL Server, Sybase & Oracle
• At least 5 years experience on AIX/SUN administration and script writing
• Strong Technical Database Administration and database performance management skills
• Knowledge of the financial industry (preferably Investment Banking).
• Business knowledge (UT/LISP/Offshore)

Manage People

• Assist your manager in the development of resources within the team (training, career-pathing, succession planning)
• Individual technical coaching – ensuring that the team is equipped to deal with the technologies that they support. This includes hand over and knowledge sharing.
• Involved in the recruitment process when there are vacancies and ensure that the right people are appointed in the right job at the right time
• Technical guidance in terms of database systems planning and support
• Build a productive team that is delivering quality work
• Provide support and input into managing an employee’s performance and the regular PDD sessions (i.e. set and manage performance expectations, measurements, observations, feedback, etc)
• Manage poor performance
• Communicate and provide regular updates to the team on project progress, problem areas, initiatives, etc
• Appreciate, encourage and work with the diversity and differences in the team

Manage Work

• Manage the team’s overall workload ITO productivity, quality and volumes
• Understand the technical requirements from the business and client base to ensure that these are properly fulfilled
• Ensure that the team delivers on and is part of successful implementation of internal projects
• Ensure that the team delivers timeously on production support, and follows the necessary process
• Ensure that the appropriate policies and standards are applied at all times, especially with regard to Security, Change Management, Configuration Management, Server and Network configuration and Desktop setup
• Escalate any relevant and unresolved issues to senior management for guidance and resolution
• Communicate and liaise with internal and external client and provide relevant feedback

Act as a Change Agent/Champion:

• Live the values and behave according to the Blu Print
• Deliver against your contracted Blu Prints Personal action plan
