Senior Marketing Data Specialist

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our client is seeking to appoint an inquisitive and ambitious Senior Marketing Scientist within our long established and highly respected Marketing & Data Science team. The team is a specialist business unit providing consulting and advanced analytics across the their marketing intelligence portfolio. They act as consultants for statistical/technical advice, input into client proposals, as well as support to research teams in the design & execution of all client projects.

You will have access to a global network of c70 Marketing and Data scientists who all share the same vision to learn, develop and share the latest cutting-edge methods. Having access to seasoned industry experts in every area of marketing and data science is one of our great USPs.

Reporting to a senior member of the Marketing and Data Science team, you will have a good background in statistics, survey research design and complex analytics. You will be responsible for running analytic projects, with support/ supervision from more senior staff where needed. You will make useful contributions to discussions with clients and researchers and will recommend appropriate methodologies to design analytic/ research programs which address the client’s marketing/business problems. Good communication skills are also very important as you will have to present analysis to researchers/clients on a regular basis.

We are looking for someone with experience with survey sampling and estimation methods, including sample weighting, and with a diverse range of advanced analytic skills. The more of the following methods that you have technical knowledge and practical experience of the better: Conjoint (CBC, ACBC, etc.), Regression (Logistic, Linear, Non-linear), Factor analysis, Mapping, CHAID and Significance testing. Knowledge of other areas such as Conjoint Segmentation (K-means, Latent class), Bayesian Networks econometric modelling, data integration, marketing mix modelling would be desirable.

We would also welcome experience in areas such as pricing research, brand trackers, customer user journey using behavioral data; marketing & campaign effectiveness; applying digital metrics in brand/consumer studies. The ability to handle large (behavioral/social media) datasets would also be valuable.

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, proactive, creative and eager to learn.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain good working knowledge of statistical analysis techniques, both current and emerging.

  • Effectively manage own workload & be responsible for managing projects

  • Deliver analytics projects to a high quality the meet internal stakeholders’ and clients’ requirements

  • Maintain a broad and deep understanding of quantitative research techniques, to be able to recommend appropriate solutions to client problems in a convincing way.

  • Develop an understanding of the possibilities and limitations of techniques and software packages.

  • Promote new techniques and approaches as well as continuously review external developments

  • Ensure high quality of all finished documents

  • Represent GfK’s Marketing Science expertise at internal and external conferences and workshops

Experience & Qualifications:

· Bachelor or master’s degree in a field that emphasizes the learning of modelling, statistical or mathematical skills (PhD is a plus)

· 5+ years of work experience in a market research agency

· Expert modelling skills and statistics knowledge (essential)

· Expert statistical skills and knowledge of econometric techniques in:

osurvey/polling statistics (sampling, non-response adjustments, Bayesian statistics), and

oexperimental design (conjoint, MaxDiff) and/or

oeconometric modelling (program evaluation, forecasting, economic theory, panel data), and/or

oobservational causal inference (potential outcomes, structural equation models, instrumental variables).

  • Experience in and strong interest in the following fields: pricing research, brand management, digital behavioural analysis, segmentation, media effectiveness, etc

  • Expert knowledge of analytics programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and the respective tool ecosystem (e.g., R-Studio Server, Spyder, Jupyter, Pycharm)

  • Solid knowledge at Sawtooth Software (Lighthouse, etc)

  • Solid experience visualizing and communicating results of data analyses with the ability to think beyond the numbers while addressing real-world business problems


Desirable

Experience in open data sourcing (Google Trends, Social Mentions, etc.)

Experience using version control systems (e.g., Git)

Basic knowledge of Data Science such as Big Data Analytics (Machine Learning, Hadoop, Map Reduce, Hive, Spark, etc.)

oBasic knowledge of cloud computing environments and tooling (AWS, Azure)

oBasic SQL skills with regards to working with relational databases

oBasic knowledge of programming in VBA

Soft Skills

  • Mathematical thinking, strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proven client-facing skills: translate and clearly communicate sophisticated analytical information to non-expert stakeholders and clients, able to deliver analytic insights in an impactful and meaningful way. Good at managing researcher expectations.

  • Proven project management skills: manage own and team time effectively and ensure all project deadlines are met, act to resolve conflicts between tasks

  • Good written skills, ability to write ability to help write proposals, reports and concise summary of findings (essential)

  • Good attention for detail – ensures all outputs delivered to clients/researchers are professionally presented and accurate.

  • Good interpersonal skills – treat others with respect, be cooperative, friendly and considerate of others. Be a good role model, help to build teamwork and team spirit.

  • Be well-organised and flexible, and demonstrate self-confidence, decisiveness and commitment. Be pro-active and creative

  • Is able to learn new methodologies and programming languages quickly.

  • Ease of communication in an English-speaking business environment
