Senior Site Manager

POSITION INFO:
Job Summary
To manage and be responsible for the commercial site that are assigned to him / her relating to; staff, equipment, client liaison and financial and operational performance. Ensure effective control and management of the sites.

Responsibilities

Operational management

• Ensure that the clients service level agreement is implemented and maintained
• Assume overall responsibility for the site, including night shift
• Management of the appointed Shift Supervisors and all activities of thereof
• Be responsible to arrange for the appointed Zero Waste Officer to mutually act as “relievers” for each other (to cover the days off that will occur in a seven-day week cycle)
• Oversee, and be responsible for the activities of the Zero Waste Officer
• Be responsible for the achievement of the waste diversion targets that will be set by the Operations Manager / Senior Contract Manager
• Resolve any issues raised by the Zero Waste Officer regarding contamination, or recyclable materials that have been identified in the residual waste after the sorting process has been completed
• Manage the performance of all staff allocated to the sites, including attendance, speed and accuracy of sorting
• Ensure achievement of financial budgetary targets set by the Operations Manager
• Ensure correct use of all operational systems that have been provided, by all staff employed at sites
• Ensure that the necessary procurement, maintenance and utilization of all equipment and consumables needed for the sites are carried out on time, as per the WastePlan procurement procedure
• Ensure that site hygiene is maintained against the agreed standards
• Ensure that all staff on site are fully trained and operate according to stipulated safety standards

• Ensure that accurate data of the daily sorting activities (for the various grades of recyclable material, composting material and general waste) are entered into the electronic reporting system and provided to the data department on a daily basis
• Resolve any queries expeditiously that may be raised by the data department on the reports submitted
• Ensure that the daily “Zero Waste Audit” results are captured into the electronic reporting system
• Perform and submit site inspections reports as may be required by the Operations Manager / Senior Contract Manager

• Arrange for collection of all recyclable material and general waste from site in a timely manner
• Ensure the correct use of the WastePlan purchase order system
• Engage with the transport department and resolve any collection issues that may arise
• Communicate with service providers and escalate any issues to the Operations Manager / Senior Contract Manager

• Strategically manage client relationships to ensure customer satisfaction by addressing problems immediately, attending to proposals and improvement of service levels (personal visits / phone calls / emails)
• Meet with clients monthly to address previous and new issues, providing feedback on improvements, reporting aspects of interest (meeting minutes required)
• Written communication / feedback regarding client relationships to Operations Manager / Senior Contract Manager

• Induction and training of all staff as per the company policy and procedures
• Responsible for the appointment of staff to comply with the SLA of the sites as per the company policy and procedures
• Resignations: adhere to the company rules and regulations
• Manage appointments / working permits / asylum documents of foreigners according to company policy and procedures
• Manage absenteeism daily by informing the Operations Manager / Senior Contract Manager and to appoint or place relief staff where needed
• Train and develop staff to ensure maximum productivity and profit
• Address grievances of staff a per the grievance policy of the company
• Disciplinary action: to be executed as per the company disciplinary policies and procedures
• Compile a weekly report of working hours, absenteeism and leave, as a preparation for payroll and ensure that all numbers are accurate

• Monthly reports on:
  • Site inspections
  • KPI report to check profitability (to be completed before the 10th of every month)
  • Appointments and resignations report (to be completed before the 27th of every month)
  • Commercial asset register (update before the 1st of every month)
• Month end payroll: needs to be completed as per the monthly deadline
• Industrial relations: reports with disciplinary actions taken or to be taken
• Provide the correct information to the data department for the latter to set up a new account on the reporting platform and verify all company information
• Scan and upload all client and employee documentation on Insync

• Ensure that staff have the correct PPE, as per the company policy
• Ensure staff is trained regarding SHEQ regulations as well as policies and procedures of WastePlan per site
• Ensure that each site’s SHEQ file is updated and correct
• Ensure that all staff have been trained on sites where dangerous equipment / goods and products are used
• Manage incidents and accidents as per the company policy and procedures
• Responsible to ensure that the sites comply with the SHEQ policies of WastePlan and the client
• Responsible to uphold the SHEQ initiatives as set out in the company SHEQ policy

• Minimum grade 12
• Experience in the waste management or recycling industry
• Valid driving license
• Superior management skills
• 2 years equivalent working experience in a similar role
• Computer literate
