SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to establish database architectures and administer Database Management Systems (DBMS) and their related databases within the company thereby ensuring availability, integrity and security of databases.

POSITION INFO:

JOB DESCRIPTION

Manage the installation and maintenance of database management systems on new/existing database servers to enable database functionality and availability.
Manage the establishment and maintenance of database standards and procedures in accordance with information technology (IT) governance within the Business Solutions and Technology Department (BSTD).
Facilitate the delivery of section specific outputs (including design of application databases, management of physical database structures and resolution of database incidents) and manage the efficiency and quality of section deliverables.
Optimise section resource use, allocate work and manage the accountability of resources.
Identify gaps, inefficiencies, quality issues in the work of the section and take specific actions to implement improvements.
Monitor and report on the quality, turnaround and impact of section deliverables.
Conduct research into new database technologies that benefit and enhance the database administration function within company

JOB REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Information and Technology (NQF 7) or an equivalent qualification; and
A minimum of eight to ten years’ experience in database administration of which three years must be in management.
