SUMMARY:

Are you an ambitious actuarial professional with strong pricing expertise looking to build your career in Cape Town? A leading and well-established short-term insurance business is expanding its Pricing & Modelling team and is seeking a technically strong Actuarial Analyst with solid actuarial exam progress and hands-on pricing experience.

POSITION INFO:

This role offers the perfect balance between core actuarial pricing work and modern analytics, including exposure to machine learning techniques, within a business that values innovation, collaboration, and professional growth. Candidates currently based elsewhere but looking to relocate to Cape Town are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

Pricing-focused actuarial modelling within the short-term insurance environment
Collecting, cleaning, and structuring large datasets using SQL and Python
Applying advanced pricing and analytical techniques, including GLMs, decision trees, clustering, and other machine learning methods
Building, testing, and maintaining predictive pricing models with senior support
Delivering actionable insights via clear reports, dashboards, and presentations for both technical and business stakeholders
Supporting underwriting strategy, portfolio optimisation, risk segmentation, and pricing reviews
Driving automation, system enhancements, and data process improvements
Developing and maintaining management information dashboards using Power BI
Contributing to a strong pricing and risk-aware culture across the business

Job Experience and Skills Required:

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or a related discipline
- Completion of A100 and A200 actuarial exams, or close to completion
- Strong actuarial exam track record with a clear focus on pricing
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the short-term insurance industry
- Strong actuarial exam track record with a clear focus on pricing
Skills:
- Strong mathematical, statistical, and analytical capability
- Proficiency in Python (automation and modelling) and SQL (data extraction and management)
- Experience with data visualisation tools, particularly Power BI
- Knowledge of actuarial modelling and machine learning methodologies
- High attention to detail with a structured, analytical approach
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong time management and organisational skills
- Innovative, adaptable, and naturally inquisitive mindset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking ability
- Solid understanding of short-term insurance products, policies, and risk concepts
