This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a defined interest in engineering design and all that goes with it. The role calls for an engineer who can apply his knowledge to issues associated with structural design within a team involved with the design of modular and custom structures, which are a combination of tensile structures and classical structural elements, with an emphasis on lightweight building systems & technologies and the ongoing development thereof.

If your experience covers the design of classical structural elements using steel and concrete, with experience in aluminium and timber being advantageous, we'd like to hear from you.

Reporting to the Design Manager, you will be required to undertake design from the conceptual phase through to detailed design, QC and hand-over assuming engineering responsibility for the full scope of works including:

• Working closely with our Project Managers to ensure timeous delivery and coordinated communications with external parties
• Managing all structural analysis and overseeing design detailing (specifying/sizing/designing for the Design Team to produce detail models and fabrication drawings in Solidworks)
• Liaising with Engineers of Record when required for formal design criteria approvals

Key tasks associated with the role include:

• Establishing or approving environmental loading criteria to relevant codes and design guides.
• Conducting (and/or guide and approve) tensile membrane and structural analysis.
• Establish or review and approve structural test regimes (biaxial, uniaxial etc)
• Conduct (and/or guide and approve) structural material specifications.
• Conduct (and/or guide and approve) structural modelling and connection detailing.
• Establish (and/or approve) quality control procedures for the fabrication, installation and maintenance of structural components.

Given the niche nature and broad scope of the role, we're looking for someone whose background preferably includes experience with Solidworks Simulations for finite element analyses on connections and other components. In addition, we require someone with:

• Bachelor of Science Engineering degree in structural engineering or other suitable qualification from a recognised institution
• At least 5 years' experience working as a structural/design engineer
• A proven track record of design success
• Thorough experience using structural analysis software (Dlubal RFEM)
• Thorough experience using CAD software (Solidworks or AutoCAD)
• Programming skills, while not required, would be very useful.

• Highly driven to continually learn and gain varied experience.
• Personable yet assertive and a great communicator (both written and spoken).
• Capable of grasping the geometrically non-linear structural analysis of structures.
• Have a thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts.
• Exercise creative thinking to devise new systems and innovative ways to work.
• Comfortable with being on site in remote locations to gain a hands-on understanding the work.

On offer is a dedicated full-time position involving close interaction with the design team and comes with a very competitive reward package. The offices are in Cape Town, but our client is open to remote working using Microsoft Teams, but with the expectation that you must be available for contact during the agreed upon hours.
