SUMMARY:

Senior Backend Quality / Test Engineer

Automation - API - CI/CD - Kubernetes

We are looking for a backendâfocused Quality Engineer who enjoys owning test strategy, deeply understanding backend systems, and embedding quality into modern CI/CD pipelines. This is a quality engineering role, not UIâonly or manual testing.

POSITION INFO:

Essential Skills

Strong experience in software testing methodologies, best practices, and quality engineering principles
Deep understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) within Agile environments
Proven ability to design, own, and evolve backend test strategies, not just execute test cases
Strong knowledge of RESTful API design, integration patterns, and backend services
Handsâon experience with API testing and automation tools such as Postman and JUnit
Experience testing eventâdriven or distributed systems, including Apache Kafka
Automationâfirst mindset across unit, integration, and API testing
Experience analysing logs and system behaviour using OpenSearch / Elasticsearch or Kibana
Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana
Understanding of Javaâbased backend frameworks, preferably Quarkus
Comfortable operating within an Agile Working Model (AWM) and contributing beyond testing where needed

Advantageous

Experience with performance testing tools (e.g. JMeter, LoadRunner)
Knowledge of security testing concepts and practices
Strong understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies
Working knowledge of SQL and database validation techniques
Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problemâsolving abilities
Excellent communication skills and confidence working closely with engineers and stakeholders

Role & Responsibilities

Own and implement comprehensive backend test strategies and test plans aligned to business requirements
Translate functional specifications and Jira user stories into highâquality, traceable test cases and automated tests
Execute backend testing including unit, integration, API, and serviceâlevel testing to validate business logic and data flows
Build, maintain, and improve automated test frameworks, integrating them into CI/CD pipelines
Support modern deployment workflows in Kubernetes environments, with exposure to Argo for release validation
Use logs, metrics, and monitoring tools to investigate test failures and support rootâcause analysis
Work closely with backend engineers, DevOps, and product stakeholders to ensure quality is built in early
Maintain clear test documentation, execution evidence, and defect tracking in Jira, ensuring visibility and traceability

Qualifications & Experience

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field
5+ years’ experience in software testing or quality engineering roles
Proven track record of delivering quality in complex, backendâdriven systems
