Our client, a dynamic Financial Services Life Assurer Sandton seeks to employ an Underwriting Consultant
What you will be doing if you get the job :
As a member of the client''s team the primary focus of your role will include driving the formulation and implementation of the risk model and claims philosophy, analysis of claims and other data to reocmmend and implement changes to the risk model, sanctioning new risk strategies, managing relationships and policies with the reinsurers, creating training material and educte risk consultants on industry trends, standards and risk management skills, assisting with the definition of operational processes related to risk management. Your role may change from over time, depending on your performance, your needs and the business''s needs.
Who you will report to :
You will be based at our clients office in Sandton Johannesburg reporting to the Team Leader - Underwriting Back Office, who is accoutable for the Company''''s Life Policy Underwriting functions.
Your Qualifications :
- Matric/Grade 12 (Essential)
- Relevant Tertiary Qualification, a medical diploma/degree beneficial
Long term insurance experience essential
Your Outputs (include but is not limited to):
- Receive underwriting requirements from clinical
- Synopis the requirements received and use internal and external guides to make the final decision regarding cover
- Underwriting of new business policies, group risk policies and servicing cases
- Communicate with Financial Advisors and Distribution Specialist regarding decision-making for underwriting
- Handle queries regarding premiums
- Assess risk on Life Cover, serious illness cover, Disability Cover etc
- Adhering to Risk Management (underwriting) rules, rating and insurance laws and regulations
- When assessing cover, use the following rule financial, medically, residiential and family history underwriting
- Make decisions regarding the acceptance, price and policy terms and conditions that are consistent with business Risk Management and ensuring a profitable loss ratio
- Manage and resolve queries received from the various stakeholders including doing the necessary follow up work
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers
- Communicate openly and within a timeframe
- Decline excessive risks or impose additional conditions or increase premiums for high risk.
Your experience :
- Minimum 5 years experience as a life insurance medical underwriter (Long Term)
- Experience in individual life insurance product (e.g. Life Cover, Permanent Disability Cover, Tem Income Cover and Critical Illness
- Sound business and operational knowledge of insurance industry administrative processes
- Good knowledge of the business administration platofmrs
- Familiar with Compliance Processes and Procedures in the insurance industry.
- Experience in underwriting temporary (income protector) and permanent disability,critical illness a well with signing authority (essential)
