Competition Law Specialist - 2 year fixed term contract

Qualifications and Experience

• Honours degree in Economics or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree. Masters in Economics or LLM will be given preference

• 6-8 years of Economics or Legal experience, it would be advantageous if this was in a Regulatory environment

• Experience in competition law will be an advantage

• Strong investigative acumen

• Proven project management experience of working in multi-disciplinary investigation teams

Key Outputs: The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager: Market Regulation and responsibilities will include:

• Assist in managing and conducting complex investigations regarding possible contraventions of the Act and Regulations

• Assist with the legal analysis of cases

• Present verbal and written reports and recommendations to Council for decisionmaking

• Lead investigation teams, with assistance from cross-divisional teams

• Brief legal counsel during review cases on matters pertaining to competition law

• Provide legal opinions and competition law research

• Contribute to capacity building for research and knowledge of the economics of competition and regulation

• Undertake economic analysis, particularly for complex cases and studies, related to possible anti-competitive behaviour and outcomes • Participation in the public hearings in relation to competition law and market studies

• Analysis reports in relation to the written representations and additional information, as well as, responses by the applicants and implications thereof

• Post-hearing analysis reports

• Draft reasons for decisions on market research

• Draft market study finding documents

• Provide plain language advice on competition law matters to non-legal audiences.
