JOB SUMMARY:
Data Architect / Data Modeler

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Location: Johannesburg (Hybrid)
Duration: 6 Months renewal

The data architect is responsible for defining, modelling and managing the data that flows through the data platform.

Key Responsibilities

Create conceptual and logical data models through analysis of source data and interviewing subject matter experts (SMEs)
Create data flow diagram
Create dictionaries, taxonomies and ontologies
Update data governance, data catalogue and data quality solutions
Work with application developers to ensure that data model is aligned with application design
Work with business data owners to achieve alignment on entity harmonization
Work with business architecture to ensure that the data structures in place meet the business requirements

Essential Skills

Experience/Skill

Data Modelling (Conceptual, Logical and Physical)

Data Profiling and Source System Analysis

Explaining and validating data models with stakeholders

Interviewing SMEs to understand and capture data requirements and source data design

Data Modelling tools like ER/Studio Data Architect

SQL variants and platforms such as Azure SQL and SQL Server

Highly Desirable Skills

Semi Structured and Unstructured Data

Analytical platforms such as Azure Analysis Services

Metadata Management including using a data catalogue

Data quality definition and tooling

Data Governance (working with data owners, data stewards and data custodians in a federated governance model)

Cloud storage solutions such as Azure Data Lake Gen 2

Large-volume time-series data systems like OSISoft PI

Systems development or data warehousing background, including the software development life cycle

Desirable Skills

Process control standards ISA 88 and ISA 95

Mining industry value chain processes
