POSITION INFO:
Fancourt, South Africa’s premier golfing, leisure, and lifestyle destination, is located in George in the heart of the Garden Route. Ideally situated just seven kilometres from George Airport and the historic town centre, our resort spans 613 hectares of beautifully landscaped countryside, framed by the majestic Outeniqua Mountains.
We are now recruiting for the position of Director of Finance.
As a proudly South African luxury lifestyle destination, Fancourt is synonymous with customer joy and delight. The Director of Finance plays a pivotal role in shaping the financial strength and long-term sustainability of our business - ensuring that every operational and strategic decision contributes to delivering a world-class hospitality experience.
We seek a finance leader who can think strategically, understand the intricacies of operations, and take accountability for steering operational outcomes to meet budgets, short and long term. This is not a role for a systems operator, but for a commercially astute and future-thinking professional who sees beyond the numbers, translates insight into strategy, and cultivates a culture of financial excellence across the organisation.
We are looking to bring into our executive team a professional who truly understands the demands of a complex 5-star hotel and golf resort environment. The ideal candidate will have a deep passion for hospitality and the financial acumen to guide our organisation toward sustainable growth, profitability, and long-term stability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: You will be responsible for leading the financial strategy and governance of the business while ensuring operational alignment and strong stakeholder relationships. Working closely with the Managing Director and Divisional Heads, you will provide direction, insight, and leadership to strengthen financial decision-making and performance across all areas of the resort.
This role encompasses four key areas: Financial Management, Operational Management, Member / Guest / Customer Relationship Management, and People Management.
Financial Management:
Develop and implement robust financial and tax strategies in consultation with the holding company’s German tax representation. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and investment activities while maintaining appropriate insurance coverage and ensuring compliance with statutory and audit requirements. Lead the preparation of financial reports and ensure the timely submission of all company financial information.
Operational Management:
Lead the Finance, Stores, IT, and Hotel Maintenance divisions, ensuring these functions are aligned, efficient, and contribute meaningfully to the resort’s goals. Participate actively in executive decision-making, oversee real estate and procurement functions, manage cost accounting and reporting systems (including SAP reporting), and ensure adherence to audit and regulatory standards.
Member / Guest / Customer Services and Relationship Management:
Foster strong relationships across the management team, with all stakeholders, and key external partners, including auditors and banks. Support engagement with Fancourt Country Club members and serve as a director on both the EEFF and FMHA Boards and their sub-committees, ensuring that financial decisions enhance service excellence and member satisfaction.
People Management:
Define workforce requirements, lead recruitment and onboarding, and manage performance and development within your portfolio. Provide clear direction, strong communication, and hands-on leadership across departments, ensuring accountability for outcomes and continuity of operations when divisional heads are absent.
Please note that all key performance areas cannot be listed, and this is therefore not an exhaustive list of duties.
