Job Summary:

• We are seeking a Distinguished Engineer with broad and deep expertise across multiple technology disciplines, including core competencies in Software Engineering, Database Development and Design, and Distributed Systems Architecture. This senior-level role is central to building the AI-enabled bank of the future, with a strong emphasis on technology innovation, experimentation, and emerging tech adoption
• The ideal candidate is a hands-on technologist with experience in multiple areas such as Cloud-Native Infrastructure and Ecosystems, Software Engineering, Distributed Systems, Data Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning, Security, Encryption and Tokenisation, and Technical Architecture. You will be expected to lead by example—mentoring senior engineering teams, shaping architectural decisions, and influencing strategic technology direction
• As a key member of a central service unit, the Distinguished Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, scalable, and secure software solutions that accelerate digital transformation and enhance customer experience. You will play a critical role in identifying and applying emerging technologies such as Generative AI, Web3, DeFi, confidential computing, zero-trust architectures, and autonomous systems—driving experimentation and fostering a culture of continuous innovation across the bank

Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership and Strategy:

• Serve as a senior technical authority, guiding architectural decisions and contributing to the setting of engineering standards across the organisation, together with the Engineering Practice Leads
• Lead the design and implementation of complex systems and architectures across libraries, frameworks, platforms, and environments, consulting with senior business leaders, senior technology owners, engineers, and architects

• An established role model, mentor, and technical thought leader who actively fosters a culture of agility, innovation, and continuous improvement, driving collaborative, adaptive, and high-performing teams
• Provide deep technical guidance and mentorship to senior leaders in the technology division (e.g., engineers, architects, infrastructure, and project teams)

• Proven track record of technical deliveries who understands the big picture, while being able to deep dive into technical details
• Architect and guide the development of distributed, cloud-native platforms that support mission-critical banking operations and digital services

• Participate in cross-functional governance forums and provide technical input into procurement and vendor evaluations
• Represent the company at industry conferences, workshops, and technical forums

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• 20 years of equivalent industry experience in banking, insurance, technology, and telecommunications
• Master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, and 15 years of equivalent industry experience in banking, insurance, technology, and telecommunications
• Relevant certifications in specialist areas (e.g., AWS/GCP/Azure Architect, CISSP, TOGAF, Kubernetes, PMP, SAFe, JCP, MCP, etc) will be an advantage
• Publications, Industry Contributions, Public Speaking Platforms, and Open-source contributions
• Membership to one or more open-source foundations with contributions to major OSS projects

• 20+/25+ years of progressive experience in IT (e.g., software engineering, system architecture, and technology strategy), with at least 10 years in a senior technical role, or 15+ years of experience with greater academic qualifications (i.e., Master's or PHD)
• Hands-on experience in a technical leadership role or senior individual contributor
• In-depth understanding of modern development practices such as Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and SRE principles, as well as a strong understanding of legacy systems and architectures
• Experience using AI within the SDLC while maintaining high quality standards and maintainable outcomes
• Experience in high-availability, high-security, and regulated environments, preferably in financial services, telecommunications, or technology
• Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture principles and the ability to apply them in complex environments
• Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing other professionals
• Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud-native software
• Experience with legacy computing platforms (e.g., IBM Mainframe, Z/OS, J2EE, etc) and the engineering patterns that sit within them (nice to have). Knowledge of 5 or more programming languages, including C/C++, Java, C#, F#, Rust, Haskell, Go, Python, Typescript, JavaScript, Scala, Kotlin, SQL)
• Experience in data analytics, AI, GenAI, machine learning, automation, databases, and fintech solutions
• Recognised as a thought leader, through patents, publications, open-source contributions, or participation at major conferences
• Has a track record in delivering great business/platform products
