Enterprise Risk Specialist

POSITION INFO:

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and enhance the ERM framework, policies, and procedures in line with the Insurance Act, Prudential Standards, SAM and governance principles.
Identify, assess, monitor and report enterprise-wide risks, and maintain the risk register, KRIs, and RCSAs.
Support underwriting, actuarial and finance teams in underwriting, reserving, catastrophe and accumulation risk assessments.
Monitor credit, market, liquidity and ALM risks, including stress testing and scenario analysis.
Prepare risk reports, dashboards and analytics for Management, EXCO and Board Committees, including contributions to the ORSA.
Monitor operational, conduct, reputational and strategic risks across the business.
Provide technical guidance, training and support to business units to embed strong risk culture.

Job Experience and Skills Required

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Actuarial Science, Economics, Statistics, Accounting or related field.
Postgraduate qualification in governance, internal audit or risk management advantageous.

Experience

5–8 years’ experience in risk management, actuarial, internal audit or related roles within:
- Non-life insurance or reinsurance (strong preference), or
- Financial services with proven ERM exposure.
Strong understanding of South African insurance regulations (Insurance Act, SAM, PA Prudential Standards, FSCA Conduct Standards).
Experience with ORSA, capital modelling, risk appetite frameworks and risk reporting highly beneficial.
Exposure to catastrophe modelling, accumulation management, underwriting, or reserving advantageous.

Skills

Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to interpret model outputs and data patterns.
Technical knowledge across underwriting, catastrophe, reserving, credit, market, liquidity, operational and strategic risks.
Familiarity with ISO 31000 / COSO ERM frameworks.
Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Experience with Power BI, SQL or risk/actuarial software advantageous.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
High level of professionalism, integrity and the ability to challenge constructively.
