FINANCIAL DIRECTOR – CA (SA)

Due to the acquisition by a large national Group, this newly acquired Subsidiary which has a footprint throughout South Africa is requiring a Financial Director in an exciting and developing role. This position will report into the current Chief Executive Officer, who will be retiring within 12 months and if this candidate has CEO potential, he/she can also apply for this executive role. This Group has a unique and customer-centric approach to their services and have Franchisees across South Africa. It can provide their superior service thanks to the dedication of their Franchise Partners and ongoing commitment to providing an unrivaled level of customer care. The Corporate Head Office in Jhb, where this candidate will be based, holds the right to the Master Franchise and the newly appointed candidate will take full responsibility for managing this complex contract of rules and regulations. A new management structure will be put in place by its Shareholders and this candidate will certainly contribe to this new structure in advising how it will look. There is a very small but highly effective Financial Department in place and it is envisaged that this will also be developed over time. To date, the use of business analytics has been lacking and insight into the commercial effectiveness of the Group has been exceptionally limited, as there is a huge amount of data available which the Shareholders are requiring to be analysed. Therefore, the use of BI tools needs to be introduced and effective business analysis needs to take place which will further guide the Group’s growth and success. Due to the largeness of this national business, group procurement can be refined as leverage can be effected in negotiation with group suppliers which will lead to immense savings for the Franchisees.

Key performance areas, inter alia, include:

• Financial planning and strategy as well as analysing & reporting of financial performance – monthly reporting, cash flow, forecasts, analytical review by analysing complex financial data, etc.
• Assess, manage and minimise risk and ensure compliance to internal controls.
• Oversee internal & external audit and tax functions.
• Development of IT – IT project management and implementation as well as Business Intelligence implementation and improvement (as outlined above).
• Develop and implement accounting policies together with comprehensive budgets & forecasts.
• Assist with special projects as per project work scope.
• Manage and develop Financial Department and train as well as mentor staff, noting that at the moment there is a very small financial team in the Corporate Head Office.

Requirements:

• CA (SA) is the ideal qualification coupled with experience in one or more of the following sectors – Franchise, Logistics and/or Retail.
• Commercial experience and business acumen noting that the basic financial tasks should not take more than a week in a monthly cycle and the remaining period will require the successful candidate to be involved in all areas of the business and its operations.
• Strong analytical skills and knowledge of BI tools which most likely will also include very advanced Excel skills (financial and business modelling) as well as proficiency in accounting software.
• Able to make tough decisions when necessary and be thick skinned, ability to think outside the box, solutions driven, sense of urgency, proactive coupled with being creative and dynamic.
