File Transfer Specialist

Our client, a leading organisation within the financial services sector, is looking for an experienced Senior File Transfer Engineer to join their technology team. This is a 12-month contract opportunity based in Sandton.

We are looking for a senior technical professional with strong experience in Managed File Transfer (MFT) environments and deep hands-on expertise in IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG). The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of secure file transfer protocols, partner onboarding, routing and document flows, certificates, troubleshooting, automation, and enterprise integrations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the secure, reliable and efficient exchange of files across internal systems and external trading partners, while providing technical leadership across the IBM SFG environment

POSITION INFO:
What you will be doing: Design, implement and maintain secure, scalable and highly available file transfer solutions using IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG) . Install, configure, maintain and optimise IBM SFG environments. Configure and manage trading partner profiles, routing channels, protocols and document flows. Manage partner onboarding and establish secure file transfer connections with external parties. Configure and support SFTP, AS2, FTP, HTTP and other relevant file transfer protocols. Design and maintain SFG routing channel templates and business processes. Manage certificates, encryption, authentication and access controls within the file transfer environment. Integrate IBM SFG with enterprise applications, middleware and other technology platforms. Monitor file transfer operations and proactively identify potential failures or performance issues. Perform regular health checks, maintenance activities and performance optimisation. Lead the investigation and resolution of complex file transfer incidents and failures. Analyse SFG logs and diagnostic information to identify root causes and implement permanent resolutions. Develop and maintain scripts, workflows and automation to reduce manual intervention and improve operational efficiency. Plan and execute IBM SFG upgrades, patches, migrations and configuration changes. Ensure file transfer solutions adhere to security, compliance and data protection requirements. Support audit, reporting and forensic requirements using SFG audit and reporting capabilities. Monitor file transfer volumes, capacity and system utilisation and contribute to capacity planning. Maintain technical documentation covering configurations, processes, partner setups and troubleshooting procedures. Work closely with application owners, business users, infrastructure teams, security teams and external partners. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Participate in incident, problem, change and release management processes. Drive continuous improvement across the Managed File Transfer environment. What we are looking for: Relevant Bachelor's degree, Diploma or equivalent IT qualification. Strong and proven experience in IBM Sterling File Gateway (SFG) . Solid experience in Managed File Transfer (MFT) environments. Hands-on experience configuring and supporting trading partners, routing channels and document flows. Strong knowledge of SFTP, AS2, FTP and HTTP file transfer protocols. Experience with certificates, encryption, authentication and secure file transfer mechanisms. Strong understanding of networking, firewalls and security protocols. Experience troubleshooting complex file transfer issues using application logs and diagnostic tools. Experience integrating SFG with enterprise applications, middleware and other technology platforms. Strong scripting and automation skills using Shell, Python or similar technologies. Experience with IBM SFG upgrades, patching, migrations and environment maintenance. Understanding of audit, compliance and security requirements relating to enterprise data transfers. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical initiatives. Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior engineers. Beneficial: Experience within banking or other highly regulated environments. Knowledge of POPIA, GDPR or similar data protection requirements. Experience with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator or other IBM Sterling MFT products. Experience with enterprise integration platforms and APIs. Experience with automation and DevOps practices. Experience with high-volume, business-critical file transfer environments.
