Job Profile Summary

The Financial Controller is an advanced level role in the Management Accountants job family. The role operates at a national level in medium to advanced complexity environments.

Their primary objective is to execute on operational level management accounting functions within aGo-to-market. This includes but is not limited to:cost and revenue accounting and associated management reporting, intercompany and balance sheet reconciliations, financial closingand chart of accounts management. They ensure that all accounting-related tasks are professionally executed according to company and legal requirements.

Job Description

Manage monthly management accounts

These individuals oversee the general ledger and performrevenueand cost recognition processes, ensuringoptimal execution on relevant systems. Cost and revenue recognition includes but is not limited to:maintaining accounting data, analyzing variances, calculating and reviewing accruals and deferrals, and formulating instructions to raise purchase orders and invoice and liaising with the MBS.

Perform accounting functions and closing
The Financial Controller is responsible foradministration of month-end activities, which includes the preparation and approval of month-end journal entries, reconciliation of accounts and execution of a variety of actions in the accounting system.The Financial Controller performs closing of the general ledger and sub-ledger accounts at month-end.

Manage reporting data
The FinancialController maintains and prepares the accounting system-specific data required for statutory and management account reporting. They are also responsible for data preparation and management reporting related to cost and revenue accounting for relevant operations.

Compliance testing
These individuals assist with the implementation, control and monitoring of periodic compliance testing, contributing to the optimum use of systems to facilitate an efficient accounting process.

Behavioural skills
The FinancialController displays good planning and organizing ability and demonstrates excellent attention to detail. They are highly analytical individuals who are able to work effectively under pressure. They have the ability to self-manage and are deadline driven individuals who display high levels of integrity.

Required Experience:

2 – 4 years’ working experience,
At least 2 years’ working experience in a related field

Proficiency in relevant accounting system

Tertiary education in accounting, either a diploma or a degree is required

Reporting Responsibilities

The Financial accountant has 3 direct reports. They will report into the relevant team lead at a management accountant level.
