Financial Controller, Johannesburg - R 720 000 CTC

SUMMARY:
European NGO with operations in numerous countries, is looking for their next Financial / Project Controller to be based in Johannesburg

POSITION INFO:

Striving for global democracy, human rights, peace & social justice, this NGO has stood the test of time for close on 30 years. This role is ideal for someone who is very hands on (& not just in the financial aspects of the organisation). The role will see you working from home initially, until an office has been appointed. Once there, the role will expand on managing the office from various aspects. While opportunity calls for strong financial skills, they’re looking for the incumbent to buy-in to the cause
 
There will be travel within South Africa, & soon within Southern Africa – this will require a sense of flexibility
 
They’re in the process of changing their accounting packages, so there won’t be too much accounting in the early stages, but will focus more on the controlling aspects & assisting partners with reporting & budgeting
 
Minimum requirements:
Essential:

• Relevant accounting qualification
• At least 5 years’ post qualification experience
• Willingness & able to travel

• Financial duties of the projects. This consists of making sure that the administrative procedures regarding agreements, budgets, register in the internal systems, reconciliations etc are made on time & reported to the Region Controller
• Establishing relevant agreements with partner / member organisations
• Regular & ongoing collaboration with the Programme Managers regarding the projects´ financial development. This includes the control of projects´ finances, administration, & audit (the reports)
• Financial support & follow-up with partner organisations. The support consists of work with budgeting, reporting, meeting deadlines, master formats & templates, compliance financially & with the agreements
• Conduct financial monitoring on partner organisations (and if applicable member organisations) & follow up on findings. This includes to report to the Teams & involved colleagues, including the Region Controller, on relevant issues for efficient & qualitative collaboration to ensure good structure & internal control in the projects

• Financial audits of all projects
• Together with the Programme Manager plan for participation on relevant activities & make field visits to partner organisations to work with quality assurance within the funding
• Financial management of the office
• Financial procedures & other administrative routines at the office are maintained & developed in collaboration with the regional team & finance team
• Oversee the financial operations of the organisation & ensure timely & accurate financial reports & practices including cash management, payroll, financial disbursements, ledgers, audit etc
• Ensure that all financial reporting is completed on time & submitted to the head office; this includes:
  • Submit monthly information on the outcome of administrative costs in relation to budget (and other requested financial information) to the head office.
  • Prepare the office’s annual accounts
• Responsible for the financial quality assurance within the project portfolio of South Africa
• Responsible for local project controller related tasks
• Responsible for the finances at the local office
